Topic: I caught Joe's acoustic guitar at the Tel Aviv, Israel show!

Hey fellas,

This past Friday Joe performed in Israel, and towards the end of the show, after a spinetingling performance of Woke Up Dreaming and a wonderfully interesting acoustic solo, he threw his Yamaha LJX26C into the crowd. I was lucky enough to have caught it, and I am eternally grateful to Joe. He even signed it and gave me the hardshell case!
I don't think a musician has ever shown a gesture of goodwill like this here, Israel is usually a bit 'neglected' and the cool stuff is saved for big venues abroad and shows that are recorded for DVD release. This was Joe's last show of the tour and I think he was a bit surprised to see he has such a big following here.

Anyway, before I go bugging the management to try and get some information, I thought I would try here first.

- Does anybody know how many guitars like this Joe has? I'm trying to figure out its history: What shows was it used in (Royal Albert Hall maybe??), how long Joe has had it, etc. There is no serial number on the guitar (at least not one I could find), so this might be a tricky.
- How many instruments has Joe thrown into the crowd over the years?

Lousy phone recording from the show

Any information you guys can supply would really be appreciated. I feel very lucky and would like to make the most out of this incredible experience!

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Re: I caught Joe's acoustic guitar at the Tel Aviv, Israel show!

Very Cool Tom!
Joe does not make it a habit to give away his concert instruments, there is only one other time I can remember, he wasn't happy with his acoustic at one of his shows and gave it away to some lucky youngster in the first row. I'm sure someone would know/remember the details better than me. Your a lucky guy!

Welcome to Joes' forum if you are a guitar player you should check out the gear section here and post them photos there you'd be suprised at the information you could find out,  there is alot of good and knowledgable people there and Joe himself even posts from time to time. As you have already found out first hand just what a good person he is.

Rock and Roll,
Jack

oops, I see your alrerady in the gear section tongue

Lucky you, Tom!

Obviously, Joe would know the details of this guitar you're asking about and there is a good chance he will reply here. I think he's been endorsing Yamaha acoustics for about 2 years so I'm guessing he's had the guitar that long at the most - just an educated guess on my part.

I don't recall ever hearing of Joe "throwing" a guitar into the crowd, so it may be a first!

You lucky git. big_smile

Re: I caught Joe's acoustic guitar at the Tel Aviv, Israel show!

Thanks for the info and kind words, guys.

Joe, if you ever get around to reading this:
I really can't begin to express how much this means to me. I know you weren't aware of your fanbase here but can honestly say I am your #1 fan in Israel. I have been following you for a few years now and I screamed like a little girl when I found out you were coming over here!

I myself own a guitar store here and of course know how to appreciate a quality guitar. This guitar is going to stay in my family and whoever gets it will definitely know who you are.

If you could answer a few questions of mine, that would be great:

- You wrote "may she give you better luck than me" on the guitar. Is there some kind of secret message behind this? smile
- How long have you had this guitar and what shows did you play with it?
- Seeing as you're one who frequently throws his instruments into the crowd, what made you do it this time? Israel is dying to know!

Again, thanks for an amazing show and an amazing experience. I hope to see you again soon!

Tom

Re: I caught Joe's acoustic guitar at the Tel Aviv, Israel show!

He has given a couple others to the best of my memory. I think in Arlinton VA and once in the UK.  He is extremeley hard on his acoustics. I doubt it was played at RAH but only Joe or Dave would know that. He has certain guitars that he flies with for shows like that and guitars that stay in the road cases. One less now that his Music Man got smashed flying there. That might be what he meant by better luck. He is also pretty hard on acoustics so he might of been having trouble with the electronics on that one or it staying in tune. They charge so much for extra bags now it better be worth the expense to fly it home. You got a great story out of it whether it has a storied history or not. Some might get an autographed Set List you got an autographed guitar used in the set. smile

Neither guitar I am talking about was tossed but given to crowd members.

I seem to remember Joe handing a "problem" yamaha accoustic to a pretty lady in the front row at Olympia and Paris on this last tour. I may be wrong though.

If this is going to become a habit, there could be some road trips going on!!! (and early starts for the head of the queue rh Michael)

Thanks for that. The guitar is actually in near-perfect condition! I played it for a bit, it holds tune fine and the electronics seem to be in good condition. There is a strip of tape on the top part of the EQ (you can see it in one of the pictures), not sure what it's there for...

I actually didn't have to fight over it so much, the crowd gave up pretty quickly since they knew they didn't have a chance. wink It didn't even fall!

Re: I caught Joe's acoustic guitar at the Tel Aviv, Israel show!

Last October two years ago at the Paradiso Joe threw an acoustic guitar in the audience as well.
In the Olympia I didn't notice Joe giving away a guitar, maybe Micheal or Eva saw it but I doubt because they were  sitting next to me>

Great story Tom and you are very welcome on this great forum!

Re: I caught Joe's acoustic guitar at the Tel Aviv, Israel show!

Joe has placed in the audience 5 Yamaha acoustic GTr's in the last year and a half. Most because of how hard Joe and the road can be on them.  They just can't handle the torture. 8-) and the electronics just break. Tom the GTR was not used at RAH but has been used in Europe over the last year.
