Topic: Another dose of Chris Duarte…

On a very cold and windy Thursday night, my friend Mark and I met at old Shank Hall for another show. This time The Chris Duarte Group was playing and as always with Chris, you get a wonderful blend of Blues, Rock, Jazz and Funk rolled into one great sound. This was Mark’s first time seeing Chris live and even though he knew his music, he hadn’t fully appreciated what Chris can do during a live show. After the opening 15 minute song to “warm up” as Chris called it, Mark thought Chris might be a little over the top for him. However, every song after that and for the rest of the night, Mark must have told me how great Chris was a dozen times. Yes, another Chris Duarte fan had been born. wink

My first glimpse of Chris this night sort of surprised me in that, gone was his flowing, thick long hair. He immediately told us all that this was his first gig since getting his hair cut and the thought of Samson losing his strength because of shorter hair entered my mind. However, with his shorter hairstyle I must say, this was the very best that I’ve ever seen Chris play and I’ve seen his live show several times before. When you’ve seen a performer many times over the years, certain shows stand out where you could say a performer was “ON” and so, this night Chris was “ON”!

The show began promptly at 8:00 PM and ended at 11:00 with Chris taking a 30 minute break between sets to meet people and sign items. I purchased his newest CD called “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, All Things Blue” and I must tell you that it has been part of my regular rotation of listening since I picked it up. Since Carl and Tallan Latz could not make it down to see Chris this time, because it was a school night for Tallan, I said hello to Chris for them as per their request. Chris remarked with “I still have Tallan’s business card in my wallet!” Yes, little “T-Man” not only can play guitar, but he’s good at marketing too! wink

Anyway, it was a great show and as Mark and I left, Chris met us at the door and thanked us for coming. This alone spoke volumes to Mark about what kind of person Chris is. smile

Re: Another dose of Chris Duarte…

Sorry, forgot to mention one thing on the above post. Chris told the crowd that he will be touring with the Japanese group Bluestone Co. for about 6 weeks starting in February. I've seen Chris with these guys and let me tell you, that is surely a show to see! Here's more information about dates and places they will be appearing at:

Re: Another dose of Chris Duarte…

Caught Chris that following Saturday you saw him. He played a free show at the Club Tavern in Madison on a Saturday Night. Great show. 3-1/2 hours with only one 20 munute break. WOW!!!

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: Another dose of Chris Duarte…

I have never seen Chris live with his band, but I did have the unbelievable fortune of playing in front of him at the KOTB competition this year. He then did a little clinic and played a few songs with his drummer for the people in the store. He is really an awesome player. I need to catch a show soon.

Saw Chris a few years ago in Tulsa. He put on a great show in the rain. Was all over the place!
