Topic: Need some help to understand and decrypt joe bonamassa on rig rundown

I can't succeed in understanding joe words on RIG RUNDOWN EFFECTS UTUBE especially when he talks about something of 1978 pat travers ,? .At this moment, just after saying this I particularly appreciate his guitar sound, which is quite bluesy and pure

Could you tell me what kind of pedals and /or amp he 's using at that point?

Joe says it's a whirlwind phase 45 clone pedal, but I can't really tell you which since I don't really know about those.

Orange Phaser as stated on the Whirlwind website.

Re: Need some help to understand and decrypt joe bonamassa on rig rundown

Yes it was the Whirlwind Phase 45 clone.  He was probably using the Marshall Jubilee and Bogner Exstacy for that tone.  It was very dry and "rude" sounding which is typically what he uses that for.  I never thought Joe would be into phasers and I don't particularly care for them, but I have to say that I really dug his "Pat Travers" tone.  Mr. Travers is a very big fan of phasing!

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

I always have trouble using my MXR 90.  I can never get the sound I want.  The phase is always too powerful and the pedal adds a ton of noise.  Maybe a 45 would suite my tastes better?

Justin:  I've been a big PT fan for a lot of years and think his tone was one of the best ever until I heard Joe's.  If you're a fan of that kind of stuff and haven't run across it, check out the CD (album?) Radioactive from the early 80's.  Particularly a song called "New Age Music" or "Electric Detective".  Very cool.

My fav tones of PT's are on the amazing "Putting it Straight".

To keep it Joe-related.....Pat Thrall, who did some guitar work on the studio version of "Bridge to Better Days", used to play in Pat Travers' band....he was/is a monster player.  Anyone dig the "Hughes/Thrall"?

One of the reasons I got so bummed when I got eliminated from the King of the Blues competition was because Pat Travers was going to be one of the judges during the next show.  I would have love to have met him and have a guy of that caliber grade my sloppy mess that I call my style tongue.  There is a cool video on Youtube of Joe, Warren Haynes, and Pat Travers jamming.  Some REALLY great stuff on there!

Re: Need some help to understand and decrypt joe bonamassa on rig rundown

The Whirlwind pedals were designed by the original designer for MXR Pedals.  They have 3 pedals no names on any of them they are described by color.  Orange is the Phase 45, I believe gold is a classic distortion that would be similar to the MXR Distortion, and Red is a Compressor pedal.  Very cool pedals at a decent price I suppose.
