Topic: DIY Effects Pedals

Does anyone here build their own effects pedals and if so, what have you built?

Re: DIY Effects Pedals

I built a Trem pedal but it didn't work. I gave up after awhile I just am not that good with an Iron. One day I will try and make it work again!

Re: DIY Effects Pedals

It is DEFINITELY something I'd love to get into. The kits I found online that are supposedly "better" than the ones you buy in a store are uber-expensive. So I'm only interested if it sounds good and would be cheaper than store cost. hmm

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Yes I have built some DIY pedals this last year and I must say some of them are pretty good!

  • The first one was a Si Fuzzface Clone Kit from http://www.moodysounds.com a pretty good starter.

  • The second one, a Distortion + clone also from Moodysounds... I liked it at first but when I built my first TS-808 clone I put the D+ in a drawer.

  • The third one, was an analog delay (Moody) with a photoresistor on a switch to change the delay time.

  • The forth one was a B.Y.O.C Overdrive II Boost + TS-808 clone (http://www.buildyourownclone.com/)... a great pedal with lots of mod possibilities. Loads of cool options and it sounds better than the TS-9 offered at your local music store... haven´t tried the TS-808 at sale right now.

  • The fifth is another TS-808 clone built on a PCB (Der Screamer) from http://www.musikding.de but I totally changed all components from their schematic. This one is a killer! Just three knobs no switches but a great pedal!

  • For the moment I am waiting for a delivery from Mouser.com with components so I can build a Colorsound One Knob Fuzz and Matsumin Valvecaster (A Tube Overdrive)

It becomes a very addictive hobby if you try it. It´s not always cheaper to diy but the result is more rewarding... and you get your pedals with true bypass stomp switches so they are dead silent if not engaged.

Sune,

Nice pedals! Did you do all the graphics on them yourself? I am slowly becoming addicted to building pedals myself but I haven't made anything that looks that good yet.

Thank you!
Yes I have done the graphics by myself... well... Frankie is a photo from the web but... transparent labels and a color laser printer... that is the magic. Half of the thing with DIY is to make them look good... at least that is what I think. And I must tell the first Fuzzface version didn´t look rather good but I rehoused it some months later... :-)

Re: DIY Effects Pedals

My whole Rig is basically Home Brew!

Often I gig with either a Dr. Z Caemen Ghia Clone, or a Deluxe Reverb Clone, or a "Blackface Tpye" Clone. If I'm not playing a Strat, I often play a Warmoth Soloist I built from parts. And Pedals?
    Eternity Clone (BYOC)
    Mo'D Clone (BYOC)
    DIY Boost
    BYOC Chorus/Vibrato

Now, I didn't build the Amps, or the Mo'D Clone. But, friends did.

And I often do use a Torres Prince Tone Jr. Amp I did build from a kit.

Oh yeah, I also build my own Pedalboards.

    Lots of fun!
