Topic: Guitar players' pet peeves

Thought this might be kinda funny. What are the things that drive you absolutely crazy?

- When I'm playing acoustic and the pick falls in the hole (the guitar god's way of saying PLAY WITH YOUR FINGERS)
- The big one... breaking strings
- Broken cables....

what else?

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

People asking to play your guitar. Or worse... people assuming they're allowed to play your guitar and just pick it up.

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

1. Drunks who automatically presume they can go anywhere near your gear, or even worse try picking it up...
2. My niece who things the dials on my amp are twirly toys....
3. Hecklers who come up to you mid song saying "Play me some Gary Moore" (its happened too much to count lol)
4. When jamming at open mics, the guitarist who always has to be 10x louder than everything else
5. And the worst 1!! When you catch your finger on the string end at the tuning pegs and cut it or stab it lol

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

When you have played hundreds of clubs, raised two children and kept the dog away for years without scratching your favourite guitar - just to one day find your 12 year old sons friend playing the damned thing wearing a spike belt from hell...  mad

This makes me want to move to Europe! In America, you're more likely to get "Freebird" or "Mustang Sally"... sad

Another good one, why does this hurt so much???

Here's one...trying to find a good singer in a sea of other guitar players.

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

Other guitar players saying how this guitarist sucks, and how he/she could do it better. That's the worst one for me.

There are hundreds of those idiots on Facebook, dissing one artist or another. When they start slagging Joe that gets personal!

Major Tom to ground control...

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

My biggest pet peeve is when the cable gets all twisted.

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

Expensive valve amps going wrong.... Had a mesa express head... Reverb started humming after 2 months, Had fixed and sold it to buy a reliable Matchless.. Bought a Matchless thinking they were the best and most reliable amps on the planet.. 11 months later the Matchless has packed up... Loses volume after about a hours playing, Half hours rest and it works again !
How much do you need to spend to get 99% reliability ?

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

Anyone that comes within 10ft of my gear with a drink...

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

Musicians that don't want to work hard.  You know creating music actually requires practice and effort?  And it's not like hard work most of the time.  Having difficulty getting my band together and it's really getting to me.  Cleared out a space in my home to rehearse and set everything up and no ones been over yet, the wife wants to start moving things back into that room.  ugghh.  LAZY @$#^$&%(#)s   mad

Where the hell does one get a black-backed gold top anyway?

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

Outdoor gigs, starts to rain, brand new strings go rusty, and then changing them again ¬¬ lol

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

Its has to be idiots messing with gear at gigs, although we pretty on the ball with that. We had have a guy try to pick up a 62 strat, you never seen me move so fast in my life.
Also people giving ridiculous advice, we played one gig got a standing ovation and encore (in a support slot) and then someone try to tell us that Virgil's tone is all wrong. You just have to be nice though!!

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

Douche-baggery is a term we've coined where one or many band members "ham it up" for the audience. A little is ok, but 80's hair band extremes falls under the d-bag category lol

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: Guitar players' pet peeves

- People that want to use your amp at a gig for their set or those soundguys that assume it's up to them whether other bands use your amp.
- People that #@$@# and moan about how they know more purely because their guitar/amp/pedal cost more (that's more an online one, not really met anyone like that in person but the LPF is pretty bad for it)
- A buzz coming from the guitar that you can't figure out for hours.

The worst though, is people that lie about what gear they have after finding out what you have, just to out do you. Those people suck lol

EDIT -  that "beeped out" word, is a female dog lol
