Topic: Gibson Dusk Tiger

Anyone into this sort of thing?

I'm....not. hmm

There are only two new models of Gibson I'd buy - the JB and the James Page BB (because I like the custom stylings and the wiring and tonal options would be very interesting to own)

I'll stick to the old stuff...

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

i think that guitar is hideous. give me a burst or gold top anyday.

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

Doesn't do it for me, either. Too gimmicky

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

I like the look of the top wood but that's about it. The Zoot Suit SGs are pretty ugly IMO too.

Maybe I'm just an old fashioned old coot...

Major Tom to ground control...

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

As a player who is hell bent on learning slide that guitar interests me. I like the ability of being able to switch tunings and tones without needing to bring 5 guitars to a gig. I would always bring my R8 to a gig and maybe a 335, but this guitar seems interesting.  Its all analog so there is no tone processor. I like that alot.

I have gotten pretty good at tuning my guitar over the years so I dont know if I need to have a machine do it for me. However I'd be interested to know if it auto tunes exactly right every time. And if you can do it in the middle of a song quitely.

For me its all about the practicality and tone.  I dont care where its made or how close to an original burst it is as long as its easy to use, practical, and sounds great.
Its another tool in the shed.

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

The whole "all analogue" thing is just to sound good. Can bet that thing doesn't sound much better than if it were all digital.
I can almost bet it is as close to a digital signal they could get it without actually calling it digital. So you won't be getting anything great from this guitar.
Gibson are doing some crazy things these days, including having run ins with the law lol

I'm going to be steering clear of buying Gibson till they sort themselves out again. I hear almost nothing good on the Les Paul Forums. Every day it seems like they're up to something crazier than the last.

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

I think I'll play one and see what it sounds like thru an amp before I assume anything.

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

I'm only assuming they'll be bad due to how awful the robot guitars were.

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

To me it looks like they are reaching for something.  It looks like a tool more then a instrument.  Changing things with state of the art software, tuning on the turn of a dial, acoustic tones and cheesy looking style straight out of something like the Karate Kid.  I personally wouldn't waste my time with this guitar as I only use one tuning.  I might tune down a half step or use drop D at times but I'm not an open tuning kind of guy.  Don't have time to learn new scales and chords.  A traditional Les Paul or a Standard Stratocaster is all I want.  Simplisity goes a long way.
I look at Joe Bonamassa's rig and think "Good knight!  That looks like more controls and buttons then they used of the first rocket ship!"  Give me a few tone controls and a volume, maybe leave enough head room in the sound that I just start to distort after turning up all the way and then a Tube Screamer to push it the rest of the way.

Sorry.  It's all my fault.  Treat me any way you like.  I thing I'll go wreck my car.  Oops don't own one! I' think I'll go rent one then wreck it.

I hear a lot of bitchin' moanin' an' groanin', but no one played one actually have they?
But that's alright by me.  But it's all my idea and all my fault...

So you designed it?  Alright boys get a rope!  lol

Sorry to you my friend, we're all old school and afraid of change.   I will respectfully withhold my opinions 'til after I play one, nice looking rig though and I like the pup blend!  Peace.

Where the hell does one get a black-backed gold top anyway?

lol NAH, I didn't design it, just joshin' around and givin' ya'll a scapegoat for sacrifice....BUT, the idea crossed my mind about 15 years ago.  Wasn't very proficient at embedded computer design, but saw enough that the future would make it "inevitable"...THEN the next thought was my word, they are going to have a army of "old school" going up against THAT idea.  That also seen as "INEVITABLE".  I say, tear it to pieces with comments not unlike a tiger.  I am SURE it is going to have crapola to turn many off.  It will be revised and updated and such.  Someone, will eventually make one sing really nicely.  But, The CHapman Stick should've been the one coming up with this stuff first, but alas...  I'll see what's the crapola and then then pound the gavel...For now, case dismissed for lack of evidence!  Tear it to pieces Tigers!

Opinions though, Jeff?

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

The thing is downright confusing.  And it looks like something that's trying a little too hard.
I understand the motives, but it should be eased into instead of going overboard. A Line6 Variax looks simpler to navigate than this!

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

goog guitar and a good amp all you really need is a volume knob and a tone.  you can still get to point a to point b with this thing but if you can do the job with out having to go to rocket school why wouldn't you?

Re: Gibson Dusk Tiger

I agree,

I think if you are a slide player and not amazing enough to play like warren haynes in open tuning... Then perhaps this guitar would be a good way to save some time as you would not have to have multiple guitars tuned differently.  Not all of us are Rich Robinson and can take 20 guitars  on the road.

I'd sure love to though.
