Re: Joe talks about Palmer Speaker Simulators

interesting. I dont know much about rack gear, does that control just one amp, or does that control both cabs?

Thanks,
Logan

Re: Joe talks about Palmer Speaker Simulators

I like the idea of the Palmer but it would suck having to buy 4 of them for 4 amps, especially at $600 a pop.  So theoretically you could run all the heads safely without even bringing cabs?  I like the idea of plugging the amps straight into the PA so the sound guy can control the levels and get an awesome (consistant) sound.  I may have to check these out. smile

That would save a lot of space in the car going to gigs big_smile
Nothing I hate more than the set up and pack up of gear. (that's not true, I hate more when the soundguy says "hey, we're just going to have the rest of the bands use your amp too ok?"...and I think, "hell no!", but usually let them cause I don't want to be "that guy")

Re: Joe talks about Palmer Speaker Simulators

How exactly does this work?

Re: Joe talks about Palmer Speaker Simulators

I have never used one, but I think:

You plug the speaker out of your amp into the Palmer (it is an 8 ohm load box, so be sure to set your amp to 8 ohms).  Then there are 4 line outputs to plug into a mixer (or anything else that take a line level).  Lastly there is a "filtered" line out.  I am guessing the filtered line out is the "speaker simulation" because you can change the settings on that output to emulate the sound of a 2x12, 4x12, ect.  This would most likely sound much better than the plain ol' line outs.

However if you want to use an actual cabinet also, there is a thru option allowing the output of the amp to be split into the Palmer and into the speaker cab (without alteration).

Another cool use of the palmer is to be able to create a wet and a dry rig with just one amp - a la EVH (at one point in time).  Check out: http://www.guitargeek.com/rigview/258/

Yeah-I'm baffled too. No cabs on stage therefore no source volume-only routed house sound? Uhhh? hmm

I guess the idea is really to eliminate the need for micing the cab.  There are some benefits: no bleed, more control, no mic stand to trip over.  There are some cons: the genuine sounds of the cab won't come through the PA, no bleed (sometimes bleed is good).
