Hi Joe (or Dave) noticed that the EBMM appeared to have a stray string at the machine head during the RAH performance. Thought this might be an emergency repair just before coming on stage as Dave is normally very particular about a tidy machine head. However I've noticed it on other live performances since, so was wondering what the reason for this is. Theramin effectiveness perhaps???
I have noticed Joe 'twanging' a stray string when using the Theramin.

That's exactly what it's for. I read that Joe hates uncut strings on the headstock, but decided to use one string for the thermin cause it gives a cool sound.

Thats right.. I hate hanging strings. It shows your audience that you could care less about your appearance. Like wearing a potato sack to a gig.. unless thats your gag.. Anyway the hanging "chad" as I like to call it came from a gig in Moscow last year. The airlines will take your tools whether they are in you check bag or not.. so bag guys needs some craftsman tools in Russia or even Iowa he/she is taking them.. So we show up and the tools have been poached.. Dave tried to do the bend metal two ways and it will break thing on the D string and it failed everytime.. Nature of the tuners and nature of the string gauge. so show time rolls around and we have this hanging string and we have to go for it. When I stepped to the Theramin it gave it such a fluttering cool sound that it had to stay.. Just the hanging chad..

That is cool. Amazing how accidental circumstances lead to discoveries. I'm a traveling engineer and can totally relate to tools disappearing in the airline handling process. If you inventory and valuate the loss, you can get compensation for the pilferage but it takes a long time. Rick
Cool story Joe! Sounds like you've had a fair share of problems with the airlines huh?
