Topic: The forum and my reading glasses

In a way I seem not to accept the restrictions of advanced age and have developed a strong habit of forgetting and losing my glasses. So I did in August when I forg0t to take them with me after the wonderful brunch in Jane´s house the day after  Hot August festival.
Back in Cathy´s house I decided not to drive back but rely on one of Cathy´s glasses. At least I could read with them at clear weather, and in NYC I got another pair of hip 5 Dollar glasses which allowed me even to read in the evening. And at home I got new ones from health insurance (NO, not from the communist Hitlerian German general insurance, but a privat one).

And yesterday I got my old glasses back: Jane was so mindful to give the glasses to Cathy who brought them to Amsterdam; from there they came via Eva back to Nürnberg. A big thank you to Jane and Cathy!!!!

Re: The forum and my reading glasses

Ha Ha Guenter, reminds me of my wife.

Now, she has a pair stashed everywhere she might be and need them. Kitchen, bedroom, car, and several other places. Invariably she asks where her glasses are because she can't find them when she isn't wearing a pair, and won't wear them in company since she can't admit she always needs them on.

As for me, I usually end up sitting on a pair and breaking them at least once a year.

Glad yours found their way home. Rick

Re: The forum and my reading glasses

Good Story Günter! cool With me, it's a touch of senility with bad vision, I have to have my glasses or I can't really see. I wear blended bi-focals with three different levels of vision; close up, computer distance and then far distance. However, there are times that I prefer taking them off to write something or read something small. Then the door or phone rings and by the time I get back, I've forgotten where I put my glasses. I've been on many an expedition in my own home looking for my glasses. You know, it's tough being part of the "grown up club" and that's why I refuse to join. wink

Re: The forum and my reading glasses

After multiple pairs of readers from Walmart, Walgreens or any other discount drug store. My sons father in law, an opthamologist, offered an exam and and recommendation. Since I was needing a seperate pair just to read text on the television from across the room I relented and went to see him on a proffesional basis.

That was three years ago I walked out of there with no line tri-focals. 3X bottom for reading 2X middle for the computer and 1x for the TV. I now take them off only for the shower and bed. Totally dependant on them and totally blind without them. Time for a check up and probable magnification increase.

Now if my other son would just marry a proctologist's daughter my health issues would be taken care of.

Speaking of proctologists, I'm going for a colonoscopy on Friday. Quoting Star Trek, "To boldly go where no man has gone before." yikes

Well......OK, I did have one 5 years ago too. roll

All kidding aside, if you're 50 years or older and haven't had one yet, you really should have your doctor arrange one. They did find 3 polyps the last time and fortunately, they were non-cancerous.

You are welcome. I would have gladly shipped them but IIRC Cathy's personal secretary said just give them to her for her next trip.....

The trick is to get yourself loads of cheapo reading glasses from the dollar store - lose one, pick up another. It is also important to place spare glasses at strategic locations around the house. tongue

No lemon flavor here, it was a putrid immitation orange flavor with an after taste of salt that sort of gurgled in the back of my throat. Add to that, I had to drink a gallon, yes a GALLON, of this horse p*ss the night before the procedure. Oh my, it was an active evening in Menomonee Falls. The good part was, I did call ahead and warned the Metropolitan Sewage District and they ended up setting aside part of the deep tunnel in Milwaukee just for me. smile

The other good part was the drugs they used to knock me out. Man, I woke up in the room that I had left and wanted sleep there the whole day. Of course, they threw me out. After a quick lunch I caught a four hour nap on the couch waking up at 6:00 PM and thinking I shoud really go to bed only to realize the night had just begun. Like I said, good stuff! wink

However, like Günter's glasses, I seem to have lost my nice wool scarf somewhere between the hospital room and home. Checked the restaurant and they couldn't find it. You don't think???!!!! yikes

Roy

P.S. The good news was this time there were no polyps, so I should be on a 10 year hosing schedule instead of the 5 year one.  Thank Goodness!
