Re: Close to purchasing my first ever guitar
Rockfarmer
I tried and tried to do some learning on my own, never got anywhere really, the open string chords and very small lead playing, not enough to excite me.
Then I found www.justinguitar.com and I wholeheartedly recommend this site to anyone who is starting out, and indeed I am sure more advanced players can find something to help them out as well. There is so much content on there and all of it is free(he runs an honour system of donations). He has just revamped his beginner course and I must say that it looks fantastic. I am planning on working through it myself to go back and get the fundamentals down properly. I have a tendency to learn a little then just go off and jam with that, trying to find my own ideas, not the best for my development but keeps me happy
You can look at some of my videos on youtube, by no means am I great or even approaching any level of fluency, but I can get a sound like some songs, good enough for me to be happy at home playing, which is my goal to have a little fun playing along to some songs I know. I have been going about 2.5 years now, and bear in mind I dont have enough tim to practice, as I work 60-70 hours a week, and have a 4 year old and 1 yearold to occupy a lot of my time at home. There are some kids on that site though that after 18 months of playing and learning through the site are now playing knnockout covers of fairly hard songs, G n R sweet child of mine for example.
http://www.youtube.com/user/amyorissa There is my youtube channel if you want to have a look, like I say not on any high level, but you can also see some sort of timeline for me from my early videos to my latest ones. To contrast even more, it just happens that the first one I put up on youtube, is the same as the very last video I put up there. So you can hear how my playing has progressed since that point, roughly 18 months time.
Any progress I will give 100% credit to justin and his site, and has a great community on there as well in the forums, along with here it is on my daily essential website visits Probably the most useful and freely giving website of any type I have found.
You can tell I like it, but really it is that good in my eyes You will learn loads if from there and if you get lessons on the side as well, your gonna get rocking quite quickly.
