Re: Coach House - San Juan Capistrano

Here's the set list from the second night:

John Henry (double neck)
Bridge to Better Days (JB LP w/ creme)
Blues Deluxe (Joe talked about his belt buckle, it was pretty funny)
Lonesome Road Blues (Rossington, capo 3)
Sloe Gin (R9)
Story of a Quarryman (Red Albert Lee Music Man)
Had to Cry Today
The Great Flood (JB LP w/ creme)
Ball Peen Hammer (New double neck 12/6, capo 3)
So It's Like That (LP w/ Bigsby and black plastic)
Last Kiss
So Many Roads
Woke Up Dreaming (capo 1, with a little bit of what sounded like the intro to Cream's I'm So Glad)
Mountain Time (a Music Man Axis? Joe broke a string on this tune and switched to the R9)
----------------------------------------------------
High Water Everywhere
Just Got Paid/Dazed And Confused (V)

ah that's why he switched guitars in the middle of that song, i was sitting down at the table, turned back to speak to my brother, then i turned back to watch the show and Joe was replacing guitars, but didn't know why. anyhow that was definitely a great show that day.

its all a matter of principle...

Rich, #52 is not a prototype. It was just a random guitar off the line. He put the creme plastic on because some people didn't seem to like the black. It is one of his all time favorite Les Pauls. It is on the RAH DVD for Sloe Gin and The Great Flood. Also used during the BOJH sessions as well as Black Rock.

What is cool is that one could of been anybody's it came from a dealer in NY.

Jim, I'm guessing the black plastic then ended up on the non-JB model he uses for Lonesome Road and Happier Times.
Anyone else spot the brown back, different tuners and same colour knobs?
(Or was that a prototype?)

What's wrong with the black anyway? - It's a Joe Bonamassa Les Paul right? Not a "Some People" Les Paul tongue . I'm surprised Gibson never did it as standard on the goldtop - it looks way better IMHO. (Just wish I had one........)

The guitar you are speaking of is a Goldtop he modified to appear like his model before they went into production. It was used in some publicity photos. It also is used in Europe. He has guitars that stay in Europe and others that stay in the US and only a few that travel back and forth with him.

No offense intended, Brack, but I don't think announcing this on the internet is a good idea.  Sort of like giving the street address where a guy stores gold in his basement.

Re: Coach House - San Juan Capistrano

Ok.. Lets get the guitars sorted shall we.. LOL

#52 Les Paul.. OKC special. White parts.  It was a stock JB LP til I read online someone who hated the black parts.. So I spent 40 bucks and switched them. My point was if you have 4k to spend on a Les Paul dont hate on the cheapest parts.. Easily corrected.
The Musicman custom made in 3 weeks..12/6 made its debut at the Coachhouse gigs. So did the Big Poppa Albert Lee and MM Goldtop.  Fantastic guitars.  Thank you Sterling, Brian , Derek and Co...
The cabs are mine (retired EV loaded Mojo's) 2007 to 2008 tour.  so was the superlead on top.  The DSL 2000's were rented from Third Encore in Burbank.
The pedal board is my standard fly in rig.. The airlines have become such PIA's that we needed to scale down for the sake of our sanity and wallet.  $600 dollars to ship a extra weight pedal board.. I mean for real?? It cost less to ship me under the plane..
The rest of the gear was a combo of our rehearsal rig and rented backline.. Had a blast at the 20th anniversary concerts.
thanks for making them very special.. and completely full as well.
best

Re: Coach House - San Juan Capistrano

Why change the plastic because of one person's opinion? Granted it's a cheap swap, but still.

Re: Coach House - San Juan Capistrano

I changed it because I have a few JB LP's and wanted one with a different look as well.  thats all. #52 is my main one now.  # 1 has been retired.

Gotcha, thanks.

Re: Coach House - San Juan Capistrano

Just to clarify why Joe calls it the OKC special.

In August of 2008 the Inspired by models were just coming out. Joe had the prototype and maybe #1 not sure if he had gotten it yet. I had ordered two don't ask why and don't tell my wife.

I had two more guitars than I needed, since I don't play very well,  so I sent Joe one in time for the second BOJH sessions in exchange for a future draft pick. It just happened to be #52 because I was getting #38 set up by a local tech.

When he put that mention in the RAH DVD insert I about fell out of my chair.

Re: Coach House - San Juan Capistrano

Oklahoma City Special...I got it! That's pretty cool, but what do you mean "in exchange for a future draft pick"?

Re: Coach House - San Juan Capistrano

Yeah that was about 6 weeks ago, I've replaced most of the stuff I had in there. Except for the card of that waxer up in Orange...hmm...but that's neither here nor there.

Amazing show BUT this is the 5th time I've seen Joe (Coach House and Galaxy (Dec 07?), Monterey Bay Blues Fest and SJ jazz fest) and I still haven't heard Rick high enough in the mix. Last night I took the opportunity to walk all the way around the room to see if my seat near the stage was too close to hear the PA properly.  No matter where I was, I could barely hear Rick at the best of times, despite seeing him actively screaming around the keyboard playing tasty tunes.  Sloe Gin was really the only song where Rick was heard.

Hearing the keyboards would make this great sound even richer.

Is there any way to get this kind of feedback to Joe? Respectfully submit that this feedback would be lost on the FOH guy.

Tyler

p.s. it was GREAT to chat with Rick and the NorCal roadtrip delegation

Good Point on not hearing Rick during the show.  I didn't think of it until you mentioned it, but I don't recall hearing much of the keyboards either.

You're right, I could not hear rick at all BOTh nights.
Dont know what was up with that.
Rich

Re: Coach House - San Juan Capistrano

Yes, Rick was in the mud most of the night. Could it have been because of the house PA and rental gear? BTW, pix from that night on photo section. Rick

Re: Coach House - San Juan Capistrano

Rick's got a fantastic way of playing.  You REALLY would not hear him and wonder why the sound was "so thin" without his contributions.  I think many expect to hear things a certain way and it's usually not how Rick Melick delivers. He impresses me immensely.  The whole band does.
