Thanks Trispy. My review of Joe's DVD will be in issue 52. It should have been in 51, but the first email appeared to disappear into cyberspace!

Re: I'm writing a review of Joe for Blues Matters!

Hi folks,

Just a quick heads up to tell you that my review of Joe's RAH DVD is is the new issue of Blues Matters. I've kept it hidden from everyone on here until now, I hope you like it...

My reviews of Davy Knowles Coming Up For Air, and Virgil’s EP are also in this edition (52), amongst a few others.

I also wrote live reviews of Aynsley Lister,  Chantel McGregor and one of Ritchie Kotzen, but I’m not the only one:

Wooders wrote a review of Davy Knowles and Back Door Slam from their gig in London, as he did with Philip Sayce. Well done Phil.  smile

And furthermore there is a great photo of Sayce from Martin!  smile So a bit of a family affair this month!

Aside from that, there are plenty of interviews: Ian Gillan, Blackstone Cherry, Kill It Kid, Patrick Droney (a big Joe B fan) and Alan Nimmo. Also Warren Haynes names his top 10 blues songs.

With the demise of Borders, it is getting harder to find the magazine in the shops, so I would urge anyone who likes blues or blues inspired music, wherever you live, to subscribe to Blues Matters: http://www.bluesmatters.com

Sorry if it looks like a plug, but it is important this magazine is kept going!

PS My Blues Assembly review with Martin’s pics should hopefully be in the next one!

Re: I'm writing a review of Joe for Blues Matters!

Congratulations, Duncan,  to you and Wooders for your great reviews. I am very impressed!

I thought I recognised that picture of Philip Sayce as being one of Martin's....well done for that too, Martin.

Blues Matters is a great magazine packed with loads of information and it's always handy to read it while sitting at your pc so you can check out what the artists sound like.

There is a feature on a young player called Patrick Droney from New Jersey who cites Joe as one of his main influences and also whom he sounds most like.

Sounds pretty good to me smile

Re: I'm writing a review of Joe for Blues Matters!

Thanks Duncan.  Also, an overdue thanks for the review on Tommy Castro.

A local freeby type of magazine just came in the mail yesterday. (Patrick and I live close to each other in southern New Jersey.) It was a follow-up to a previous article on young people to watch and Patrick was featured in there. His closing line made me think of Joe; Patirck's dream is to meet his idol, Eric Clapton.   Patrick is a very nice young man, along with his family.  I met him a couple of years ago, along with his mom, waiting for the doors to open at a venue in an Atlantic City Casino.  We were there to see Kenny Wayne Shepherd when he was touring the 10 Days Out tour.  His mom started talking to me when she spotted my Joe Bonamassa tank top from the Blues Deluxe era.  I'm sure you can envision the scene...it was one of those instant connections, honestly I felt like I'd known her for years.  smile

P.S.  I have never met Patrick Droney, but he and I corresponded for awhile and he truly is a very kind young gentleman.  His heart and mind are in the right place....sounds like someone else we know  wink

Brilliant guys.
Still haven't subscribed.
Must do that tomorrow.

Re: I'm writing a review of Joe for Blues Matters!

Well done guys. Will be getting my issue ASAP.
Also to agree with Martin about other artists. When going to see Walter Trout at Shepherds Bush, it did
not look like a sell-out to me, as good as the show was. Compare that to when Joe was there last.

Re: I'm writing a review of Joe for Blues Matters!

I thought you’d like to know that after some delay and editorial changes the new issue of Blues Matters is out. The cover feature is on Led Zeppelin as it is the 40th anniversary of their debut. Interviews include Robert Cray, Davy Knowles, Oli Brown, Jack Bruce, Bex Marshall and Bill Wyman.
There’s festival reviews from Cambride, Carlisle and Butlins festivals, plus live reviews of many of the bands featured here, including my Blues Assembly one, Matt Schofield, Gov’t Mule, Davy Knowles, John Mayer, Virgil, The Hoax, Ian Siegal, Joanne Shaw Taylor etc, etc…

Of particular interest to those on the forum there is my review of Joe from the Picturehouse Edinburgh last Decemberand also my DVDv review of the RAH DVD has made it in second issue running!

Not to mention a huge amount of new album reviews that would appeal to many of the members of this forum.
