Topic: Remembrance Sunday - Veterans Day

Just a little reminder for all of us to take a moment today (or on Nov. 11) to consider the sacrifices made by past generations so that we may enjoy the lives that we have today.

"They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them..."

I will second that. I think of mates that didn't make it back or came back with less than they went with. I was lucky. All the best to you who serve or served.

If you love your freedom and live in the U.S. of A. then thank a vet this Wednesday. If you don't know where to find one just locate the nearest Veteran's Hall and stop by and buy one of those who served a beer or whatever.

Re: Remembrance Sunday - Veterans Day

Last Wednesday, the night before the incident at Ft. Hood, I was invited to tour the medical facility of a huge military base in NJ, that is now a super base.  Lots of soldiers are processed through this facility, being deployed and then being discharged when they return.  I work in accounting/billing insurance area for a doctor's office, most of the attendees were physicians.  Because of the volume of soldiers, many of the soldiers are sent off base to see these different specialists.

There was a guest speaker from the Air Force at this event who had a slide show running behind him with photos of surgery from Iraq & Afghanistan. Believe me, it didn't look as nice as the old TV show MASH. I thought I was going to faint. Some of those images I will never be able to erase from my mind, just horrific.  I learned that 1 in 4 soldiers are injured in war.  Politics aside, for or against war, especially the current situation, these men and women are the bravest and most courageous human beings that have made incredible sacrifices. They deserve the utmost respect.  Peace.

Re: Remembrance Sunday - Veterans Day

This year was particularly poignant in the UK as it was the first year that there were no survivors of the First Wold War present to remember their fallen colleagues.

I am most grateful to all that served and those that are doing so now. War is a horrible thing. Nobody is the same after. I'm very proud of my father. He died when I was 18, and never talked about his experiences. He joined the army while homesteading in Alaska. He was in the First Special Force, known as "The Devil's Brigade". Hey Kathy,

I read the story about your dad, a very courageous man, for sure.  I'm sorry you lost your dad so young, that must have been very difficult.

An interesting observation about some of the baby boomers dads who fought in World War II...they never really talked too much about the war until about 50 years after their return.

Hey Angela - my dad was a 'Radar' with a MASH unit that went across North Africa and up through Italy. At the end of the war he wound up in Vienna, where he eventually met my mom, etc....

Cool George. smile

I think this is just an incredible story about a vet and his trumpet, he carried his trumpet everywhere, especially in his cockpit. The story about Normandy is amazing.

..he was no enemy, because music had soothed the savage beast...
