Topic: Any chance to play a jb signature LP in NY??

Hi guys,

i am going to NY on vacations in December and i was wondering if i would ever get a chance to try joe's signature guitar over there.

Here in MAdrid i never saw one in store, so i was planning to try one in NYC and see if it could fit my playing.

I have a Studio gem from 1997 and a Standard from 2005 that i particularly love because the 60 neck profile seems to fit best my small hands.

Do you think the JB signature will feel as comfortable as a standard to me??

Thanks for replies, hints ...

As far as I know they are all sold out... As far as the neck, it will be bigger than the 60s neck but not so big that it's uncomfortable. I have relatively small hands and didn't realize that I like bigger necks unroll I got a 58  les paul RI. Now it's all I want. I suggest trying out a '59 Les Paul and seeing how that feels to you... That's how the jb Les Paul is. Oh, and welcome to the forum!!

Best,
Logan

Logo is right about the JB Les Paul I'm afraid.  All bought up for the most part and they have beefier necks than a '60s LP.  Enjoy shopping around the guitar shops in NY, they have some really fine ones.  Joe plays plenty of '59 RI's on the road and is sort of a secondary signature model in a way lol.  I actually get more excited when he breaks out the flame bursts instead of the goldtops but that's just me.  If you want a JB on a budget you could always get a '57 RI and put some black hardware on it.  Some of them even have the darkbacks on them similar to his signature model.  Also if you find a nice LP Classic you could always throw some BB 2&3 pickups in there and add the black pickguard.  You'll see a JB model on EBAY from time to time so keep your eyes peeled.  I really hope Gibson offers a more affordable and available second run of signature LP's!

Re: Any chance to play a jb signature LP in NY??

There's not any in the stores? I picked one up off Ebay about 3 months ago. I paid $3,200.00 which I thought was outrageous....then I played it.....And found out they were limited edition.

The poly saddles had to go though. Acoustically this is a superb guitar and through a Fuchs, BrownNote, or Bludo- these guitars are magic. Marshalls too. There's got to be a few in stores in NY.

Geez- I saw Joe up @ The LA Amp show. What a cool cat. He was checking out Moss's (Brownnote) new BlueMonkey 88  amp heads with Buffered Effects Loop. Wouldn't shock me to see him drop one in to put it through it's paces.

Re: Any chance to play a jb signature LP in NY??

I'm sure a non limited signature model will see lights in the future but i just can't wait to try one ... i really dig the combination of gold top with black hardware and mismatched tone and volume knobs ... and as the cherry over the cake it has the aged vibe that i love ...

Well the only thing that could bother me is the round neck because i have small hands ... so i was thinking about a traditional pro with 60 neck, is it available in gold top??

Thanks.
Mica.

Re: Any chance to play a jb signature LP in NY??

All I can suggest is to visit all of the major guitar stores on your visit and you may just get lucky. I have found two JBLPs in guitar shops just by stopping by and seeing what they have. The only one I know of that is for sale is in Chicago (see the thread on top of this page). They were asking $4500.

And keep your eyes open on EBay if you wish to buy before you play it. Hopefully you can find one at a decent price and the owner will be willing to ship overseas.

I think the custom shop still makes a gold top dark back '57 RI, that would get you close. You would have to swap in black pick guard and p/u switch washer and swap out the tone and volume knobs.

No doubt it's a fat neck which was the icing on the cake for me.  I love the relic'd model, back when I bought it I actually had the chance to choose.

Go post a WTB on the http://www.thegearpage.net/board/ and I bet a few poor souls will be willing to sell you theirs. A lot of folks over there have gear come and go like perishable fruit so they play it for a bit and sell or trade.

There's some sick deals on the Emporium right now.

There's a Carol Anne OD2 for 2K which is insanity. A Vibroking for $1,250.00 which is a $3,500.00 amp new.

Best of luck. Hit me up if you get any bites and I would be happy to help you assess value.
