As a Smoggy, I can appreciate any Chris Rea cover! BUT I'd like to hear him do 'Adventures In A Yorkshire Landscape' by BIll Nelson' Be Bop Deluxe...especially the 'Live! In The Air-age' version. smile

I think Joe could do wonders with Fire and Water, though I'd like him to cover the Michael Burks cover of the Free original. big_smile

First just to say again for those who don't want to read the whole thread, most Joe fans agree we most prefer Joe-riginals but since he does do covers we enjoy saying which ones we would like to hear. Its not saying we think he should in most cases, just that we think it would be cool. Joe has said before about how he likes to also pick obscure ones so sometimes i mention ones that I just want to hear him do no matter how un-obscure they are but sometimes one hits me as something that I really think would be something that would fit his obscure definition and maybe even something I think would get attention of a wider fan base or something while still being a good fit for Joe.

just wanted to point out again this thread is basically for fun, most if not all of us wish Joe to compose his own songs and only cover songs he wants to but we have fun giving suggestions or talking about ones we can imagine Joe doing.
smile

Nonsense Jane! I have it on record from Joe that he is going to record each and everyone one of the suggestions in a 10 CD set to be released before Christmas this year!!  lol lol lol

Yes you are right, we want Joe to record as many originals as he can in the future. In years to come it will be people on other forums suggesting which of Joe's songs they'd like their artist to cover. smile

"In Your Town" by Rory Gallagher played on your new Rory Strat in Cork. How about that Joe? cool

If that were to happen, I want the video on Youtube. smile

Already posted this on another thread but I'd like to hear Joe try Free's The Stealer or Oh I Wept, or Kenny Wayne Shepherd's  Blue On Black or Aberdeen. Maybe even Jonny Lang's Still Rainin'.

Have to agree with you Jane, I had no idea this thread (I 1st posted back in 2006) would have this kind of response, and still be active today! We all have our old favorites we would like to hear Joe work his magic like only he can do, but would be impossible with all of these suggestions. It does however give Joe an idea what his wide fan base likes to hear. I personally like the Jo-originals myself, but is fun to see everyone’s oldie favorites. I feel Joe’s covers are actually a tribute to artists who he admires, and is a way of showing a very professional respect! Boy can he have these guys shaking their heads….!!!

The bottom line is Joe is going to choose and play what he feels, and as everyone can tell… no two Joe CD’s sound the same. He is very diversified, and not at all afraid to venture out into a fresh new style at will always satisfy any crowd; genre or venue. Joe is the best, and it’s kind of ironic, now there are several bands (trying) to emulating Joe’s style…. And doing Joe covers

How about 'Riding with the king'?

Please enjoy the sadly under-rated but fabulously talented John Hiatt and Sonny Landreth performing this wonderful song.

Joe covering anything by Thunder would be fantastic. I will miss those guys. Wish I could have gotten over there to see them.

Been a while since this thread has been active!

Joe here is one of my very favourites. Heard and seen a few attempts to match the simplistic beauty of this piece. They have all failed miserably thus far. I think you are the man for the job.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

listening to the J Hendrix BBC sessions yesterday and heard his cover of Drivin' South, did not know he had ever played it. it sounded familiar, indeed C Duarte on Tailspin Headwhack. if Joe could cover this i think it would be amazing, and give his voice a break. joes band would tear that song a new posterior aperture.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

Not sure if this was already posted, but I think Joe would do an incredible job of Led Zeppelins "I'm Gonna Crawl".  His voice, the guitar... need I say more!
