Great. I am looking forward to this CD; I love the Mule. I was surprised when I went to the store on July 28th and no disc and no notice from GM for a full 2 weeks about when the disc was coming out. Sounds like it will be worth the wait.

I can't wait to have a chance to order a copy.
They never dissapoint.
Going to be seeing them Friday night - I'll be getting me a copy for sure.

Carl, we're pretty far back too... Upper Balcony Left Center, Row L. I bought them the morning they went on sale to the public, but we're that far back because I did the 4-pack deal to get the better price. Figured at the Tower that's not that much further away. Only had 3 in our party at the time, but I figured it wouldn't be too hard to pick up a 4th, and we did. Anyway, I'm sure I'll see you there, and we have each other's cell numbers.
Those 2 vids of Joe jamming with Mule are frickin GREAT! And they got me even more psyched for Sat! I'm so looking forward to seeing what Mule does with The Stones.

We want to hear all about it, Sandy. I can hardly wait to see them in the UK in November. I'm really looking forward to it.
My copy of 'Thread' is on its way to me - striking posties willing.
If anyone in the UK wants to buy Thread, play.com is cheapest. A lot cheaper than Amazon.
Phil
I preordered By A Thread from Play.com and it arrived yesterday right on time on the release date.
Some of the tracks are slow burners and its taken me 2 or 3 listens to get into them but tracks like Broke Down On The Brazos and Steppin' Lightly are classic Mule tracks. But for me the most exciting track on the CD is Inside Outside Woman Blues #3. The sounds Warren wrings out of that guitar verge on the insane.
Reports will be forthcoming - and all you guys who are going on Muleween have a blast. I was at the Floyd masterpiece last year, and it was insane! (Didn't hurt that Back Door Slam was the opener). You guys are in for a great night!
Have fun everybody!
Sandy

Do you know something about any special additions they're doing for Mule'o'ween? Please share!

Got my copy today. Well worth the wait. To me, it sounds much more like Dose and Life Before Insanity, than it does the more recent albums.
Joe has my favorite guitar tone; however, Warren is a very close second.

Yes, this year's theme is The Rolling Stones, or that will be one set anyway. The show poster gives it away every year... I can't find a pic to link to right now, but it's the famous Rolling Stones tongue with Mule's "quatro dose" logo (the round logo with the tribal-looking design) sitting on the end of it.
Now I'm not a HUGE Stones fan... I mean they have a bunch of great songs and I really enjoy them and everything... I've just never really sought them out, bought their music (well I have some), seen them live, etc. I would've been way more thrilled to catch either one of the last two Halloween shows, as Floyd and Zeppelin are more my thing, but this is the first one that's been feasible for me distance-wise, so I get what I get. That said, I am still VERY much looking forward to what Mule does with The Stones... they always pick such cool songs to cover, and usually rock them better than the originals. Here's a good example: I have a Mule bootleg (Halloween 2002 in New Orleans, as a matter of fact) where they cover The Who's "Eminence Front"... now I feel pretty much the same way about The Who as I do about The Stones, and that's never been one of my favorite Who songs... well Mule just rocks it so intensely and perfectly I can't get enough of it!
Carl, are you familiar with Jackie Greene? He'll be sitting in with Mule that night. (For all the other U.S. fall dates he's opening, but for Halloween there's no opener and he's sitting in.) He's probably best known for playing with Phil Lesh & Friends, but now he does his own thing. He plays guitar, piano, harmonica, sings (and does them all well)... great songwriter and lyricist... the whole package really... and he's fairly young too, like 27 or 28 I think. I saw him open for Ratdog at Penn's Peak back in July and enjoyed him very much. Here's a link to that show, if you'd want to check him out:

Hi Vikki -
I felt very similar to you last year knowing that the Mule Halloween show was probably going to be Pink Floyd - over the years I have liked Floyd but not my favorite by any means, but seeing this live and played by the Mule totally changed that. I guess now you could say I like the Floyd as played by Mule! They had the lasers, the surround-sound sound effects, the singers (Danny Lewis' wife is one of them) and the Pig! It was an amazing show. At the past two Halloween shows they played a normal first set, followed by a second set that was all songs related to the current band/album of choice, followed by an encore. Be prepared for a long night - last years show ran 3+ hours - and they only stopped playing because the venue shut them down at midnight (stupid management!)
Too bad we couldn't have swapped places on this one - I know how you feel about Floyd, and I love the late 60's/early 70's Stones. My first concert was actually 1969's Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out Tour (you know - the Gimme Shelter movie, Altamont, Sympathy for the Devil tour). I was all of 14, and my brother, who was with me, was all of 10 - a fine first concert experience.
Anyways, have fun - I'll be thinking of ya, and I'll have to wait for the torrent for my experience.

Yup, that's the one! Now how'd you find that? Somebody sent me a Facebook link with it once, but I couldn't find it again, or any other link for that matter. But I know it's legit because I saw the actual poster when I was at the Tower Theater last week for Leonard Cohen (moved from the Spectrum... but I still got to say good-bye to the Spectrum the other night when I got an unexpected invitation to Pearl Jam, and great seats too!).

Just had one first listen to "By a thread" and I´m already in love with it.
Now I´m waiting for my birthday-show ....

Google image search "Gov't Mule Halloween 2009" I love the 'net!
Regarding the subject of the post, I picked up "By A Thread" on Tuesday and have listened to it through a few times. There's a few songs that really grab me and some that may take a while to grow on me. My immediate favs are "Broke Down On The Brazos" (feat. the Right Rev. Willy G.), "Any Open Window" and "Steppin' Lightly". Not sure I'd put it up to the quality of "Dose" but ask me again in 6 months and I may change my mind.
Looking very forward to the show and whatever suprises it will bring.
CarljMD
My copy from Hittin the Note came in the mail yesterday. If "Broke Down on the Brazos" and "Inside Outside Woman Blues #3" were the only good songs and the rest filler this would be a really good cd. Since there is NO filler and all great songs this has to be the best since Dose.
