Topic: Mesa Lonestar Special

Hey everyone,

another amp I have come across that is very appealing is the Mesa Lonestar Special.  Anyone with any experience or knowledge of this amp that can lend their opinions on it?

Yup, I have one, and it is quite good
I also have the Lonestar Classic, with the 10 watt option, (the originals didn't have the 10 watt)

Both I use on the lowest wattage
Great clean

The LSS can get flabby on the bottom end,
The LSC stays much tighter

The LSC also has a tweed option, which like lowers the voltage
Eddies Brown Sound in theory
I like that setting a lot

I did a bunch of speaker changes in the LSS
The Celestion Blue or Gold, sound very Vox like

Like them both a lot, if I could only have one, it would be the LSC
The gain channel on the LSS is just a little too lacking
I set channel 1 clean, channel 2 slightly overdriven
Which is what is was designed for "Tone as Thick as the State of Texas"
Definitely not a High Gain Channel 2

my lonestar is a 2004 classic.  kept it stock.  it really has a sound.  one thing i found--that i haven't done--is to change a coupling cap from .003 to .001.  this reduces some of the bass content--i heard some users thought there was too much bass.  mine responds to all my guitars.  i pretty much stick with humbuckers.  the celestion comes thru nice.  it's not made for metal, but i get good saturation.  turns down nice.  i'll run a tim pedal on the clean side for another drive tone.  i like mine best on full power.  the amp is a 1x12--& i use a 2x12 jbl--gives me 3x12--very full.  chords & leads cut right thru.  i pull the tone switch on the tim & crank it up--it's transparent & really gives me a big lead tone.  i have the drive channel set for the mkI tone--it does deliver.  i have surprised some with the drive tone i get.  the amp can push hard--for me a bit harder than advertised.  it has 6L6's--the boogie 440's.  i may try some jj's.  but the tone from day 1 was right on.  i did buy it from guitar center.  i wonder how good joe would sound on one?  he would make any amp sound good.  it is a good amp cool cool cool
