Glad you guys like it!
The story on the 1972 Les Paul custom is it was my first electric guitar. It has old "ribbed back" gold knob tuners from the late 60's and Gibson Embossed ('70-'73) gold covered pickups. I bought it in 1994 from a Paul Reed Smith dealer. A guy had traded it in for one. Roy knows this band, but Wisconsin band "Da Yoopers" had a guitar player that came in to buy my Les Paul the day after I took it home. Got it for $895! In 1996, I had the Jimmy Page push/pull pots installed. Gibson didn't want to give my tech the schematic, but he told them he had a Jimmy Page model that needed to be rewired... lol. So I think I was one of the first in my area to have that.
• The beam blocker does what it's supposed to do, it spreads out the sound and the speaker is less beamy.
• The new Eminence speaker isn't broken in, but I can say I like the tones coming from it.
• I think the new speaker does offer more clean overdrive when Ninja Boost is engaged on the clean channel.
• The new JJ tubes are what I really feel made a big difference. The EQ knobs actually DO something now, when with the old tubes - they were pretty dead. Which makes me know the old tubes were probably just worn out. I remember back in 2004 when I got all new tubes, and all the knob adjustments made a dramatic difference on the tone.
• Paul Rivera Jr. said my broken reverb tank can be replaced by a bigger 6 spring reveb tank and more people have been upgrading to that, and that made a big difference too.
Riveras IMO have always sounded better with a strat than a Les Paul, being a Les Paul guy, I can get it to sound great with any Gibson, but the strat offers some more sparkle here and there. Like on a satisfaction scale of 0-100%, a LP through a Rivera is a 95% and the strat is a 97%. I felt it necessary to play some different guitars in the vid just to show you its different flavors. That SG has a lot of strat sounds in it because of the pickup selector.
