As no other shows from the UK tour have turned up so far, I thought I would share my nice recording with all the good folks at Dime.
A big 'aircraft hanger' of a venue with a reputation for poor sound, the sold-out show from the Guildhall has received very favourable comments for both performance & the live sound from all those that have posted comments on the JB Fan forum. IMHO my recording accurately represents the sound on the night ... ambient, wet, diffuse .. not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like the big theatre type of sound you will like this one ... of course you don't get a tight, upfront, crisp, clear bass type of sound like on my previous recordings of Joe (made at Mr Kyps since 2005) ... but beggars can't be choosers! It's just great to be able to get to see & record Joe at a local venue, now that he has become 'famous' in the UK.
This is a very enjoyable show with Joe & the band putting in a typically fantastic performance. An appreciative & respectful audience so minimal audience intrusion during the quiet bits.
For those interested - basic details of the mastering applied to my original Zoom H2 recording (using Wavelab6) are as follows:
A: EQ / Multiband Compression / Limiting (-0.2dB max) / Dithering to 16bit
B: WAVs edited to fit on to 2xCDRs (with overlap) plus fade in/out
C: track split
A note for any finicky audiophiles out there:
Mastering has been done to polish the raw master recording with the aim of enhancing the listening experience. If you prefer virgin recordings, unspoiled by any such amateur 'dabbling' then do not join in on this one. Be warned now ... I don't want any whinging! ;-)
But for the rest of you Dime'ers I recommend that you GO FOR THIS ONE ... you won't be disappointed!
I score the sound quality as 8.5 out of 10 ( = B+ );
but hey! ... don't flame me if you don't agree ... & at least keep it friendly ;-)
If you have any comments, whether positive, negative or otherwise, I would love to read them ... don't be a lurker!
