Topic: THE MACHINE in Frederick MD, this Sat 10/24!

I really should've pointed this show out sooner.  I know I maintain my Machine tour dates thread here, but I don't know how many people actually check it, and since we have a lot of members within a reasonable range of Frederick and I know at least some of them are Pink Floyd fans, I thought I'd make a separate thread for this show.  Anyway...

The show is THIS SATURDAY 10/24 @ 8:00pm, at the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick MD.  It will be their first time playing this venue.  If you're a Pink Floyd fan, you really owe it to yourself to see The Machine, and this is a good chance for people down that way.  Tickets ARE still available.  Here's the venue's direct show link:

A few of us regulars will be meeting up pre-show for drinks and stuff, and you'd of course be welcome to join us! smile

Now, a question:  Is anybody here familiar enough with Frederick to recommend a good bar/restaurant nearby the Weinberg Center for the Arts?  It's located at 20 W Patrick St.  I know the venue does not serve alcohol, and their website doesn't give any local restaurant/bar suggestions.  I clicked the camera icon on my google map and viewed the whole street as well as some nearby and didn't see much... mainly just banks, offices and other businesses.  Any suggestions? hmm

Vic,

They were on TV the other day.  Channel 101 direct tv which is essentially Direct TV's own.  Good stuff.

Awestruck

Well I know that on July 25th of this year they played a special show at The National with the Richmond Symphony, and it was filmed for a PBS fund drive.  Could that be it?  I've been waiting to hear more about it... management hasn't posted anything about when it will air, if it will only air in that area, etc.  I've attended a couple symphony shows myself now (not that one though)... they are awesome... however you definitely want to catch a normal show too! wink

Re: THE MACHINE in Frederick MD, this Sat 10/24!

The Weinberg Center is on Patrick Street within one block of Market Street. Market Street is where all the bars and restaurants are in downtown Frederick. A couple of blocks south of Patrick Street there is what we Frednecks call Carroll Creek. There are multiple bars and restaurants along Carroll Creek including The Green Turtle, La Paz (Mexican). There is a restaurant called Griff's and one called Wag's that is very small but has THE BEST burgers you will find anywhere. There are also several restaurants with bars up Market Street to the North. It really depends on what you are in the mood for. They are all within walking distance of the Weinberg Center and the parking garages that you will probably use for the Weinberg Center.

Re: THE MACHINE in Frederick MD, this Sat 10/24!

All good info, cmadragon, thank you very much! smile

Normally I'd be all over that great cheeseburger you mentioned (for some reason I always get cravings for cheeseburgers when I go to shows, plus it's usually one of the cheapest things on the menu, lol).  But in this case, I (and my neighbor, if she comes with me) will be coming straight from an all-you-can-eat potpie dinner (yum), so I/we will only be looking for alcohol.  Even then I/we don't care about beer specials, just mixed drink prices (Absolut & cranberry is my drink).  A couple of the friends I'm meeting may want food though.  So based on that info, any idea which place would best fit the bill?

So, cmadragon, are you a Floyd fan, and will you be there?  And I'm wondering about Carl, Jane, Cathy, Bob, and we have others in the area... I know at least some of them are Floyd fans.  By the way, it was one of my Machine friends who originally turned me on to Joe B., and he may be there, not sure yet.  Another one of my Machine friends who will be there seemed to really dig Joe B. when we roadtripped together last month, and now he's considering Joe's Whitaker show next spring, yay.  Just goes to show how people who recognize good music can usually appreciate it in all genres. smile

Bumping this for anyone who may have missed it, as the show is tomorrow night.  Perfect chance for area Floyd fans to catch The Machine. wink

Vikki:  Still thinking about it, any idea if there are still decent seats left? (I know....procrastinator!)  it just sort of snuck up on me.

I checked a few days ago, and if I remember right, it looked like it wasn't selling bad at all for being their first time in this venue/area, yet there were still plenty of good seats left.  Ha, covered all my bases there, huh?  But seriously that's how I remember it.  I don't have time to double-check right now.

Now, there is a CHANCE I may have an extra comp ticket you could use (and comp seats are always decent), but I won't know for sure til tomorrow afternoon sometime.  My neighbor gave me the final word today that she can't make it.  I've offered it to another friend (the one who turned me on to Joe B.), and he does want to go, but he may be tied up qualifying some race cars (he builds them) depending on the weather, timing, etc.  He's supposed to call to let me know either way as early as he can tomorrow, anywhere from like noon til mid-afternoon or so.  I figured at that point, if he can't make it, I'd try to find a last-minute home for it here.  I'm saying something to you first, Carl, since you're the first one who expressed an interest in the show.  I can let you know as soon as I know, if you feel comfortable holding off that long on buying a ticket.  Might want to check with the box office to get a feel for things.  I doubt it will totally sell out, as capacity there is 1100, on the larger side for them.

Re: THE MACHINE in Frederick MD, this Sat 10/24!

Carl, I never heard from you about my extra ticket, but I wanted to let you know my friend's racecar qualifying thing was cancelled due to rain, so he WILL be using the ticket, sorry.  I got to thinking you may have been needing more than 1 ticket anyway.  So will I see you there?  Not sure yet where we'll be hanging out pre-show.  Do you still have my cell number?  I do have yours.

Will anyone else from this forum be there?

Re: THE MACHINE in Frederick MD, this Sat 10/24!

I just found out my other friend has an extra ticket for sale, great seat too... he thinks it's 7th row center orchestra.  I've emailed Carl to give him first dibs, but I thought I'd post it here too incase it helps my friend sell it.  If anyone is interested, please email me, but I'll only be home til 4:00.  I don't want to post my cell number, but I know Carl and Jane (and maybe Cathy and Bob) have it, if anyone wants to try to track me down later.  And I imagine my friend will be hanging out near the box office trying to sell it.
