Topic: indianapolis show 10/21/09

Joe&the band were in top form last night as always! I can't really say anything that's not been said before about how much of a class act Joe is and how completely entertaining his shows are every time. After seeing many of his shows I'm always left wanting more, and that's a hard thing to do time after time. The best part of the night however was when he gave my 74 y/o mother a pick during "Just Got Paid." She took me to some great concerts as a kid and I was very excited to expose her this great experience. Joe even remembered her after the show&we got some pictures with the man himself! Unforgettable!

It was an amazing show. What I got to see of it. I was stuck behind the drunk dancer in the front row. I thought the stage belonged to Joe last night. Not to act as her drink holder.

diamondback pretty much summed it up.  It was a very good show and a cool venue.  Funny..Joe stops at one point and starts talking about some of his past trips to Indy and he mentions some of the early stops at places like The Patio.  He said there were about 5 people that showed up that night for his show .. and I was about ready to jump up and holler "HEY!....Here is two of the five right here!"  Five might have been an exaggeration..I think there were a few more there.  I remember that night well.  Joe followed Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band..  I believe it was after he did a show out at the park in Broadripple with Taj Mahal and Indigenous.. stole the show of course.  We were canvasing the park before he transitioned over to The Patio telling people to go.  Each time it just gets better and better.  We've been to every stop in this area since the Piere's show (1999/2000?) in Ft. Wayne that resulted in the DVD.  The guy just never ceases to amaze me.  I'd pay a $100 buck a pop for a ticket!  Thanks again Joe + Band!

Danny, do NOT tell me that after all that time we waited inside, you walked out back, saw the bus and Joe, and got your stuff signed and your photos taken!  Good for you!  I can't wait to see those!  (My hundreds are mediocre, at best.) 

It was a GREAT show.

Great musicians have a language & vocabulary that transcends the usual barriers & touches us on a more primitive , basic & yet complex level....

I'm so sorry you had to crane around dancing woman all night!  I got a photo of her!  She was having such a good time.  I guess I didn't think that whoever was behind her probably couldn't see.  From my angle, it looked as if she was right near the aisle and not blocking anyone, and I even thought...what a great place to be because then you can stand w/out bothering anyone.  Geez, was I wrong!  I think she forgot she was at the Hilbert and not a bar.  I definitely would've tapped her on the shoulder and politely asked her to sit her a$$ down.

We made the journey from Columbus, OH but the trip was well worth the effort because we had row A tickets.  After seeing Joe some ten times, it seems that the band sounds better than ever and last night was no exception. 

Just one editorial comment.  Doesn't it always seem that there are one or two trashed idiots that think it is okay to walk or dance up to the stage and stand in front of everyone else.  For us, it was the moron in the green and white rugby shirt.  You try to get them to act civilized, but it is always an exercise in futility.  Then it turns ugly, and the offenders get pissed-off.  Makes you wonder where the paid help was in this situation - certainly no where to be found.

The venue was great.  As always, we can't get enough live Joe and were looking forward to the next time we can catch Smokin Joe.

yeah she was asked to sit down quite a few times. She didn't care. We could tell as soon as her and her husband sat down what kind of people they were. I hate to stereotype, but boy was I right on this one. Had her drinks sitting on the stage all night. Really had to strain to see anything. I'm all for people having a good time, but I looked back into the crowd and didn't see anyone else in the whole place up and blocking anyone else's view. Just the 2 people in front of me. As for the guy in the green and white, I think I saw him take a swing at someone who asked him to move.

Yes, we did! He came out of the bus right as we came around the corner. We lucked out. I got a great picture of my mom with him. Hey, there's always next time. Nice meeting you.

Hey Joe, you're probably referring to the Gibson Firebird. He used it on "Had To Cry Today" and "Your Funeral My Trial" the last two shows we saw. The exact model I can't tell you - one of the gearheads will have to help with that.

My buddy and me actually got to meet Joe too.  We waited outside with a few other people by the bus.  Got to talk to a couple members of the band for a while and met some pretty cool people!  (DINO!)  Then Joe came out and signed some autographs and took some pictures, what a class act!  I also got a  guitar pick inside the venue.  Great show!!  He gets better and better!

You guys are so lucky to have met him!! I wanted to stick around, too, but unfortunately the people I was with needed to leave (we had to drive 2 hrs to get back home). sad

Yea, I was behind the drunk couple too, 3rd row. Luckily, though, I my view wasn't obstructed, so they didn't bother me much. That is, other than them shouting at him periodically, which got REALLY annoying.

yeah. there is a pretty thick line between cheering for the guy on stage and flat out yelling at him.
They jumped over that line many times.

The dancer in the front row was pretty cool.  Met her outside the show as we all waited for Joe to come out to his bus.  They had seen him in many cities and even traveled to London to see him at RAH.  They said they picked the corner seats so as not to bother those behind them.  They thought all was cool as nobody approached them.  Oh well, those that are shy deal with what they get I guess.

It was an amazing show and Joe was at his best.  Sure do enjoy his shows, even if we do miss the openness of the old clus scene.  Piere's in ft. Wayne was always a cool place to see him.
