Topic: George Thorogood?????

George Thorogood is announced to play in Germany. I know him only from his work with John Lee Hooker but never saw him live.
Did anyone see him in the last time??

Go see him. Jim Suhler is a bandmember of George's.

Re: George Thorogood?????

George is a raucous boogie woogie hard rocking type of blues guy.  He reminds me of Hounddog Taylor of yesteryear.  J.B.Hutto, Smoky Wilson kinda guy.  He's probably worth seeing.

He's also one of the funniest human beings that ever told a story.  Unless he's changed a lot, he's not a pain in the butt, all full of himself.

When somebody said they thought he was a genius, he said BullS**t, John lennon...genius; Mick Jagger...clever!  Randy Newman...genius; George Thorogood...very clever.  lol

To me he's the Quintessential Bar Band of America.

Or, as his website modestly claims, 'The World's Greatest Bar Band'. big_smile

GT is one of the few acts that have been going for decades whom I have always missed, and probably would have missed again were it not for my musical 're-birth' thanks to finding Joe and this place here!

As a result, I've just discovered that he'll be playing my local venue, the very wonderful Paradiso on May 18! I'm going for sure. Anyone else local want to join me as this show will be too long before the end of the month for Cathy to attend? Tickets still available at 30 euros ex subscription and costs.

Re: George Thorogood?????

just did a quick search for GT and found this old thread, - I have just stumbled across a rather nice video of him and thought some of you might want a squint at it?

Not a bad tone he has there.

Re: George Thorogood?????

World's greatest bar band sums him up all right, so hopefully you're going to see him in a bar like venue. George had to decide which fork in the road to pursue in his early career as he was a pretty decent baseball player and could have pursued a pro career. He's definitely a blast live.

A George Thorogood story as could only be told by our very own Joe Bonamassa:

Joe is the Best!

Re: George Thorogood?????

Seen him several times, always a good show. In fact, one of the wildest shows I've ever been to was at the old Aquarius Tavern in North Seattle (great venue long since closed, been turned onto a casino I think)...but George TORE the place down. Had to be in the late 70's. I prefered his 3-piece days (with all due respect to good guy Jim Suhler) just because I prefer that style and sound in general. But I'd go see him again in a heartbeat!

I missed that one previously - good fun - nice find, Roy.

I also missed seeing GT as I had been looking forward to two years ago in this topic.  roll Can't remember why either,  unless it was musical and/or financial burnout after the RAH and Cathy's visit. Whatever, I'm still on that mission....the press release about this cd is an interesting read, I recommend it!

George Thorogood !!! Yummy  cool  Cathy

Re: George Thorogood?????

George Thorogood & The Destroyers - saw them in 2009 in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
I was so excited. Really love a number of songs and couldn't expect to hear "Bad to the bone, One Bourbon, one Scotch, I drink alone, Get a haircut ..." and to see the band live. I was standing front row surrounded by some die-hard fans from the US and Jim Suhler was standing just in front of me. In one word, perfect conditions. But to be honest, the band was very professional but I couldn't feel heart and soul and Jim Suhler played with such a bored expression on his face that I couldn't help but felt somehow disappointed.
The gig was not bad, but I was far away from being blown away.

Re: George Thorogood?????

If you don't start drinkin..............I'm gonna leave. Great song. Always puts on a high octane show IMO.
