Topic: Rockin' N Rollin' 20 Years Ago

It was 20 years ago today that Mother Nature provided the Bay Area with her brand of rock'n'roll @ 5:04 PM weighing in @ 7.1 on the Richter scale. Seems like it was just yesterday if you'd been here to experience it. Game 3 of the Bay Bridge World Series was just about to get under way which turned out to be a blessing as many Bay Area baseball fans were in front of a TV instead of being on the freeways @ that time of day. 63 people did die, but it could have been much worse if the commute traffic was heavy as usual. Anybody have any memories of the Loma Prieta 'quake or any other 'quake experiences?

Hmmmm.... 20 years!! a 7.1, i do remember it....... and felt something!!  i think.......over here in London!
California is due another big one soon i hear! and it could be off the Richter. I never thought it a good idea to live anywhere near a fault line!
But people got to live somewhere, despite the dangers!

There are countless numbers of fault lines in / under the UK. Don't believe anyone who tells you different. Most of them formed millions of years ago when the crust was under tesion as a result of the splitting of the European and American tectonic plates.

Small tremors happen with great frequency in London. Most are not noticed by the public. An earthquake shook London around 1:00 a.m. GMT on February 27, 2008. The U.S. Geographical Survey has reported the magnitude of the quake at 4.7 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter 30 miles south of Kingston-upon-Hull. Early insurance estimates suggest damage costs of at least $20 million.
