Re: Paranormal Activity

I found The Shining to be a scarier book than movie.

Scary???

How many of you have read 'Metamorphosis' by Kafka?

Not so sure George. If that quote had end with the line "...with a mouth like the inside of a Turkish wrestlers jockstrap", it would have compared with my normal state after a heavy intake of ale. Frightful, but not necessarily frightening. lol

What a lovely image: you´ll have a peaceful and quiet day. Seriously: as I´ve to deal a lot with the madness of normal life in my work I´m not really yearning for some extra horror in the night.

Agreed.  One of the few movies from King book that even worked. IMO.

Re: Paranormal Activity

The Exorcist was one of scariest movies I ever saw when it first came out. It also was one of only two books that I've read completely in my life. Hey, I'm not a book reader and I'm sure it has something to do with having a touch of ADD. In my day it was called, "Not paying attention".

The other one that darn near scared the life out of me was, "Night of the Living Dead", the original, uncut version. Took a date to the drive-in to see that one when I was in my teens. Scared the heck out of both of us. You know it's scary when you don't even make out in the car during the movie and then when I was putting the car away later, I was on the watch for those flesh eating Gools. Yikes!! yikes

Now, about the only thing that scares me is when the wife is in a bad mood. Makes the Exorcist look like a children's movie. roll

Has anyone else seen this movie? All I can say is that before tonight, I had never legitimately screamed like a girl out of fear...

Seek out the version with he original ending. The one playing in theatres is tamer.

Re: Paranormal Activity

I've looked up the various endings and you're right, I like the original one.

Re: Paranormal Activity

Don't say anything more!  I haven't seen it yet!  But my son and his girlfriend saw it last week and said it was REALLY scary, and it stuck with them.  Later that night my son was getting the creeps just walking around the house.  Now THAT'S a sign of a good scary movie!

Reminds me of when I was like 13 and reading Stephen King's book Salem's Lot.  First of all, I was visiting my brother in VT at the time and he lived in a big old victorian house... what a setting.  Second, I'd always be reading into the wee hours of the night, and I was the only one on the first floor.  Then at like 3:00am when it was time to hit the bathroom before bed, I'd have to carefully sneak down the hallway, past a doorway to the stairs, past the parlor, through the living room, to the bathroom, etc.  I'd be looking out of the corner of my eyes to see if any vampires were jumping out at me.  Then I'd jump into bed and pull the covers up around my neck real tight.  I even made a cross out of some sticks and kept it under my pillow.  All this was very unlike me, even at age 13, but I guess that's a sign of a good book! tongue
