Topic: If you would have to choose a marshall, wich one would it be?

Hello Guys and girls,

If you would buy a marshall to have a little bit of that Joe sound wich one would it be?

It should have not to much power for home use and stage.

Shoot:D

Re: If you would have to choose a marshall, wich one would it be?

I get very Joe like tones out of my DSL100 JCM2000 and I'm mostly a home player.  I have played the Vintage Modern many times and feel that it's very good for Joe like tones as well.  The thing is with Marshalls they are ALL loud!  It just comes with the territory.  50w is not much quieter than 100w and Joe almost always uses high wattage amps.  You may want to check out the Marshall Class 5 1x10'' combo if you need something with lower wattage.  If you are open to Marshall tones without the name on front, check out the Fargen amps.  The Mini Plex is 12w, home friendly volume, has a really good master volume, and plenty loud for most gigs.  If that is not enough for you, the Mighty Plex is around 30 watts I believe.  It's really cool because you have a decade switch that can get '60s, '70s, or '80s Marshall tones ('68 1959, early '70 Metal Panel, and '80s JCM800 or Jubilee).  It's the only amp that I have played that has that fuzzy, roaring, plexi-like tone at tolerable volumes.  Sorry for my lengthy post but as you can see there are dozens of viable options if you are in the market for a Marshall type amp.  Good luck shopping!

'67 and '74 Fender Twin Reverbs, '74 Marshall 1987 lead mkII, Metro Superlead 100. Pedals from TC Electronic, Ibanez, Dunlop, BK Butler, Electro-Harmonix, Fulltone, Maestro/Gibson, Loopmaster switching, VoodooLab, Boss. Gibson and Fender guitars, Dimarzio pickups.

The new class 5. Only 5 watts, Joe got a great sound out of it here...

I shall be getting mine soon. Hopefully works for gigs too. I get a little annoyed carrying about my DSL head and 2x12.

Re: If you would have to choose a marshall, wich one would it be?

I think I'd have to just go for:

"The Pig"

Classic tones whilst shattering windows.

EDIT: Woops - I'm a bit silly - came through here while ten mins spare and just read the title! ERK!
I'm sure other amps could be suggested, but if you are aiming at Marshall...

Class 5 and like the guy above can demonstrate - DSL can achieve good tones at low volumes - as I remember from the one I had.

My Jubilee

Where the hell does one get a black-backed gold top anyway?

Re: If you would have to choose a marshall, wich one would it be?

I love my 1974x tho there isnt a great deal of variety with it, i wish it had reverb too....

Re: If you would have to choose a marshall, wich one would it be?

those 1974x are great amps, regret i sold mine. very dynamic amp and i regret it to it has no reverb just tremelo but who needs that :-)

Re: If you would have to choose a marshall, wich one would it be?

i've always wanted a jtm 45 and use it only for clean.  after that i would use a fuzz of some sort, and a decent overdrive pedal.  any other effects just be for shits and giggles!

Re: If you would have to choose a marshall, wich one would it be?

What about a Marshall combo? Not necessarily looking for Joe tone but just a great Marshall combo in general. On board effects are no biggie just a great clean and overdrive channel.

30th Anniversary 1x12 would be pretty awesome...

Mark another vote down for the Jub.

Re: If you would have to choose a marshall, wich one would it be?

It's not as good as my live tone but, for practice and home use I love the grab and go plug straight in Jub combo 1x12.  Certainly loud enough to gig with. Not to mention they seem to keep going up in price.

Even Marshall's transistor combos don't sound too bad. My favourites might be a jtm45 or a dsl50/100... it's enough to get some blow away some minds lol

Funny you should mention that because my dad's rig is a JTM45 and DSL100 in stereo and guess what....it blows minds! tongue

I love my Jub and wouldn't trade it for the world, but if you want ONE amp that can do both good clean and dirty I would look at a DSL/TSL or something else.

That's the difference - Your dad got em, I would love to have them...
I trust you, it has to sound great...
And also I think it's great to get some harder Gary Moore like sounds.

by the way that's funny - the jtm45 and dsl100 are the both amps Gary plays most time tongue big_smile
