Topic: Pots in a Les Paul

Hey y'all.... I figured I can post this question here...

I'm in need of some new pots for my LP Standard. When I do a search online, I come across so many different options and I'm pretty sure there's some LP players/owners here so is there anyone that can tell me what to get.

Right now my volume acts really quick. It goes from 0-100 in no time, which I don't like.

It sounds muddy on the neck p/u.

Looking forward to some suggestions. Thanks in advance....

Sven

ps. btw, I love Joe's new dvd.... looking great !!

Re: Pots in a Les Paul

I'd just like to throw my point in the pot too.
Apart from the muddiness - my L.P has a habit of having no sensitivity at the low volumes - it just has clean, then suddenly loud (still cleanish).
Only on my L.P.

RS Guitarworks is the way to go. Not the cheapest, but worth it.

Re: Pots in a Les Paul

Look at wiring methods (50's etc) that can get rid of some of the mud... as for pots regular cts have always been fine for me..

Re: Pots in a Les Paul

I was reading a lot of forums on this topic and the "experts" all have different opinions. Here's what I did and it worked excellently. I left the 300k pot for the bridge pu and built in a 500k pot for the neck. This made it possible to play on the neck without the sound getting too muddy. Further to that you can get way more transparent sounds when mixing both pus. In addition I installed a treble bleed for both pus, because I am the kinda guy who leaves the overdrive pedal on all the time and who get the different overdrive sounds through working with the volume pot/knob and so no highs/treble get lost when backing the volume. I didn't take care about bumble bee, orange drop, oil paper or RS kit stuff. I just bought some CTS pots, and my technician took what was available. The mod was really worth doing it. You can hear and feel the difference.
