Topic: Devon Allman's Honeytribe in Harrisburg TONIGHT, $7 cover

Devon Allman's Honeytribe is playing the Appalachian Brewing Company in Harrisburg PA TONIGHT (Sat 10/3)... show starts at 10:00PM... cover is only $7.  And the opener is Post Junction... I've seen them before and they are very good.  I have not seen Honeytribe, but I keep hearing good things about them here, and this is the perfect chance for me to check them out.

I've been to ABC twice in the past couple weeks (to see Cabinet, a rockin jammin bluegrass band... highly recommended if you get the chance to see them) and it's a good venue... nice room, friendly staff, good food, and lots of microbrews for you beer-lovers. wink  They've been getting some good bands in there lately... for example, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit is coming on 10/9 (I was impressed by them at HAB) and Trampled By Turtles on 10/18 (bluegrass)... in fact I may start separate threads about those shows later on.

So anyway, is anybody up for Devon Allman's Honeytribe tonight for $7?  I really should've posted about this sooner, but I was thinking it was another date, sorry.  Just happened to look at the site earlier and noticed it was tonight... I kinda yelled out in horror, only because I've done shows the past 3 nights and am considering another one tomorrow, ugh... but I'll be there, because I'm crazy like that, lol... and because it's local (only 15 minutes from me) and cheap, lol.  Hope some others can make it.

You MUST go, great liveband!

We went to see him when we were at Gekohouse and they were great and very nice people too.

Re: Devon Allman's Honeytribe in Harrisburg TONIGHT, $7 cover

A while back Jane had offered me a pair of tickets she couldn't use for Honeytribe at Rams Head in Annapolis, which unfortunately I had to turn down because I was doing too many other shows right then and just couldn't swing it.  My consolation at the time was my taper friend telling me "they're proof that it takes more than being the kid of someone famous to be good".  This guy knows music and I've learned to trust his judgment on these things... not the reason I didn't go though, as I would've liked to have judged for myself, if I could've swung it.  I did sample some stuff online at the time and while I didn't think it was bad, nothing stood out as being special.  But since that time, I have been hearing good things about this band here and other places too, from other people who know good music, so I've been curious to see them live for myself.

I am happy to report (and can hardly wait to tell my taper friend, lol) that they were VERY good!  First of all, this is a whole different band than my friend would've seen a couple years ago.  They are now a 3-piece band, a real power trio.  Devon is a talented guitarist with his own style.  I still can't make a real judgment on their original material, as they mostly played Allman covers, but anyway it was a good show.

This show was only booked 9 days prior (because a fest they were scheduled to play in NJ was cancelled), so there wasn't time to properly promote the show and nobody really knew about it.  (I only knew because I happened to be at the venue a few days before and saw a poster.)  It was a very small crowd, like a normal bar crowd, dance floor almost empty.  That's one of those bittersweet moments... you know it must've taken away from the energy of the show, yet it was cool because it was so intimate.  I think the band enjoyed it, but they did say the next time they'd do it right and pack the place.

I also got to hang with Devon and his band after the show... very cool, down-to-earth people.  Devon and I had a nice little chat about our mutual love for Pink Floyd (he'd never heard of The Machine... gasp!), among other things.  And I might be doing some streetteam work for them next time they come around.

I should add that Post Junction's set was solid too.  They are a very talented 4-piece funk/rock/jam band from the Bethlehem PA area.  They share a bassist, Peter Fritz, with the George Wesley Band, a great reggae band I've pimped on here before.  Devon was impressed enough with Post Junction's guitarist (and founder), Jon Fadem, that he invited him on stage to play with them for one song... Jon was thrilled, you could tell he was having a ball... and now I have to email him all the pics I took.  Peter got video too... if I can get a link I'll post it.  If anyone wants to check out Post Junction's music or gig calendar, here's their MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/postjunction

All this for $7 and a 15 minute drive... woo-hoo!  I didn't even spend any other money there this time because I'm about broke... just $2 at Burger King's dollar menu on the way there, and brought my own can of Mt Dew.  Just goes to show, you don't always have to spend a bundle to have a great night! tongue

Good that you went to see these guys´show: they are great.
I don´t get it that they do these killer shows and the audiences are so small. When we saw them (August, Coach House, San Capistrano) it was the same. In your case it should have to do something with short booking. But it might also be your friend´s opininion "it´s only the son" (what I was thinking also before the show), and the fact that their album with different band is far not so good as their live shows.
