Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I don't know about Bron Yr Aur Stomp but  Bron Yr Aur is my all time favorite acoustic song. Beautiful song.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I love you more than you will ever know by Blood Swaet and Tears
Joe would tear this up!

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

"Death Letter" by Son House would a great acoustic-Joe song. I can just hear him ramp it up into an electric second half like KWS's "Aberdeen."

Come to think of it, how about "Aberdeen?"

I got $700...

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

Hey thanks to Mikeb for the Captain Beyond/you tube link. Very interesting and strange. Also want to thank you for mentioning the drummer Bobby Caldwell. Drummers usually go unnoticed. I can say that it takes a great drummer to show the way. Examples r too numerous to mention. I play Dancing Madly  Backwards for the youngsters and they go nuts. I love that. I'm so happy they have reissued these great old rock albums. thanks for remembering....

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I would love to hear his rendition of Stormy Monday, preferably covering the Allman Brother's version..    one of my all time faves, and the possibilities for blues improv are endless on it. Especially since Joe seems to be embracing his Clapton/Greenie roots off of You & Me.

Joe you gotta release another live CD...    A New Day Yesteray Live (DVD) is my absolute favorite, I ripped the audio from that and it's my favorite live album I have (Right next to the King at the Regal and The Allman Brothers at The Fillmore).

The more I read up on you and see interviews and what-not, I am beginning to see what a class act you really are. Keep up the blues in the schools, and just stay true to what you feel brotha. Keep rockin' dem blues!

And looking through this thread, it seems that I am one of many requesting an Allman Brother's tune....  very interesting.

Cactus's arrangement of Howlin' Wolf's "Evil"(written by Willie Dixon) would be perfect in my opinion.

something by Deep Purple- 70's style arrangements or something by Scorp's- "Still Lovin' You" or " No One Like You ", course there's alway's the obscure Frigid Pink "House of the Rising Sun", then again, a 30 minute high octane version of "Goin' Down".  C'mon Joe, everybody's gotta do a version of Goin' Down, and yours would likely make Beck put his guitar down and go sit down.

Hey guys,  Ive noticed a lot of people saying that Joe reminds them of SRV, especially on the comments of the youtube videos.  I think those people couldnt be more wrong.  Sure joe has  influence from SRV, but his sound is completly different, his playing is also completly different.  anyone else feel the same way?  i hate hearing people call joe a srv rip off.  that leads to my point:  Thats why joe hasnt covered any srv,  i dont think he ever will either, its been done  and done and done again,  and i think joe  realizes that.
Peace,
Conner

I couldn't agree with you more. I get sick of hearing that comparison as well.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I also hear the comparisons to SRV (Although any new white blues guitarist will be compared to SRV, regardless of how they actually sound). Out of many of the newer blues players (Lang, Shepherd, Duarte [not new], Albert Cummings), I'd say that Bonamassa sounds the LEAST like SRV...    if anything his tone reminds me a bit of Eric Johnson. But you could say Bonamassa reminds you of SRV just as much as he reminds you of SRV's influences (Johnny Guitar Watson, Lightning Hopkins, Johnny Winter).

Being compared to SRV is certainly nothing to be ashamed of...    One of the greatest he was. But Joe comes no where NEAR an SRV rip off or clone...   honestly the SRV influence is slightly apparent.

It is amazing how everyone immediately compares Joe to Stevie, even on his recent album, You & Me, which is about as far from Stevie as one can get...    I hear some Clapton, Greenie, and some King(s) influences, but no Stevie here.

Regardless, I feel that Joe is establishing his one style/technique and I like that...     Even on his earlier gigs you can recognize those classic 'Bonamassa licks' that someday (if not already) kids will be out learning and tearing their fretboards to pieces just like he with Stevie Ray Vaughan just like Stevie Ray Vaughan did Jimi just like Jimi did Buddy Guy just like.....

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I agree as well. It seems that any young white blues guitarist gets slapped with the SRV clone tag whether its true or not.

Sure he probably plays some SRV type licks every now and then but Joe is one of the few young blues guitarists who has managed not to be overwhelmed by his influences and also to have many influences. Plus his tone sounds nothing like Stevie.

If I was going to name one guy that Joe sounds the most like, itd have to be Clapton followed closely by guys like Eric Johnson, Jeff Beck, BB King etc etc
