Topic: Oh man...that 62 vint. Strat o' mine!

Well actually after playing my Les Paul Goldtop for almost 2,5 month in a row I started playing some SRV again this weekend. I picked my 62 vint. Strat equipped with a set of Texas Specials and boy...how I love that guitar! Once again I figured I am not the guy who goes like "I am a LP player or I am a total Tele player...". I can't nail that for me.

I love them all and after long periods of playing one type you embrace the other type when playing it again. In this case I welcomed the "slim" neck of the 62 and the transparency in sound.

When I put the 62 down the day I bought the Paul, I was kind of through with the Strat sound. It's good to see that both guitars cover my personal guitar taste....and that taste changes...

Just felt like telling you fellas about it :-)

Ive just gone the total opposite way, I have a 62 Vintage love playing it but recently I re-wired my 335 and now that guitar just does it for me, give it a few monthsand ill be swpping again no doubt..

it's funny how your brains and your ears just get ready to hear something 'different' and then after a time you back to what you were doing. It's a big wheel go round. At least you didn't sell the strat. You'd be really regretful then!

Re: Oh man...that 62 vint. Strat o' mine!

You sound like me.  Everybody I play with wants Gibsons so I play them and i'm cool with it, but I've always played Strats because its what I started out on.  When I get my fenders out they always tell me my playing style improves so i'll switch to strats, then one day i'll play a les paul and everybody acts like they just couldn't believe i hadn't been playing les pauls all along.   Damn the luck!  But good thing is i like them all.

Re: Oh man...that 62 vint. Strat o' mine!

I have to choose between les paul and strat. I can't "like both", I own both, but I only play them in periods. But in the end I always fall back to teh les paul l,,l

Re: Oh man...that 62 vint. Strat o' mine!

I like certain guitars better with certain amps.  If I'm playing my Dr. Z or Fender amps I like to plug a Strat or Tele into 'em.  For Marshalls, Dumble clones, etc  the Les Paul gets plugged in.  I like playing Strats for a while because you really have to wrangle 'em to sound fantastic.  Then when you pick up that super sustaining fat Les Paul it basically plays itself.  I have spent more time grinding on single coil guitars but as of today I'd have to call myself a Les Paul man.  I HAVE been on a single coil kick as of late though. big_smile

I love the sound of a Paul, and I enjoy playing them. But for me a Strat or Tele just feels better in my hands. And I like the sound out of them. Just me I guess. In the end, it's all about what you like.
