That is all.
My wife was watching that "show" last night and I caught the tail end of the incident. Kanye's antics were staged to shock the audience and viewers. Same as that English dandy that was hosting the debacle. Shameless television - no wonder our kids are so messed up.
The thing I found even more disgusting than Mr. West was Taylor Swift winning any award. Nashville's promotion of that no-talent is a discredit to all the unknown artists with REAL talent.
Deezer,
Thanks for bringing this up, couldn't agree more. I watched about 10-15 minutes of the show when I saw there was a Michael Jackson tribute, I didn't change the channel. Then when Taylor Swift won her award, Kayne came out of nowhere when she was giving her acceptance speech, Kayne is so rude, arrogant and ignorant beyond words! I turned off the TV. But then, since I'm not really tuned into that whole world of music/culture, I thought maybe I was missing something... This morning I was telling my hubby about it and starting combing the newspaper for an explanation. Hubby said it may have happened too late for coverage or its just going to be squashed...not a word about it, but it wasn't too late for the press to report that Taylor won. What's up with that??? If you hadn't posted this, I would have thought I was really imagining things...
And I just found this...Beyonce did look clueless when Kayne spoke.

That is all.
Curby,
I'm not much of a country music fan and the only thing I know about Taylor is she's been writing her own music and started at it when she was 12 years old. Besides being beautiful, I think Taylor may actually have more talent than a lot of the crap music out there today. I always tune into the marketing side of things. With a name like Taylor, Taylor guitar didn't even have to think twice about customizing a guitar for Taylor, a total win-win. When I saw the photo of one of her guitars on a cover of one of my hubby's magazines, I remember researching what type of wood it was, just a very unique, exquisite beauty with lots of different shades of colors in the wood grain...fits the lady playing it. The guitar I'm talking about is made from koa wood, which is most popular in Hawaii.

Anyway, back to Deezer's post, Kayne lacks class. Thumbs down to Kayne.

This has nothing to do with talent. This has nothing to do with musicianship. This has nothing to do with artistry. Kanye West is an ****. There is no debating this. He is an ****. Thank you, and good morning.

Deezer, they got you! People your age are right in MTV's demographic target. For years their awards shows have been nothing more than shock value production. It all stems from the "material girl", Madonna who once said, "Any press is good press". Case in point, her and Britney swappin' spit years ago. What better way to get your mug into the evening news than by being obnoxious and rude. When I caught wind of the story online last night all I thought was business as usual @ MTV. It's all Hollywood. Does anybody remember when MTV was actually Music Television? That was before their target audience started devouring ultra a$$inine reality shows with a giant spoon. Teenage wasteland. Just this OG's take on it.

Truth be told, didn't watch it. Just read about it. So luckily, I didn't watch it.
I did watch (kinda..doing computer work)..and I was shocked. I guess I shouldn't be when it comes to Kanye..He's done it before when he didn't win. Manners seem to be a thing of the past!! I don't listen to Taylor Swift..but no reason to spoil he moment. Beyonce wasn't in on it...she's a classy lady, IMHO. and props to her. Cathy

A big ATTABOY, I don't watch those shows or any of the reality crap including Idol. Even if you don't pay attention you can't escape it if you surf the net or watch the news. Who the hell are John & Kate and when will they fricking go away!!!!!!

It certainly has been an eventful week for people who interrupt speeches.
It's the genre.
In hip-hop or (c)rap or whatever you want to call it, to call attention to yourself you need to act as an arrogant punk.
The actual genre requires no talent at all. If you can make up stupid rhymes and chant them to some ear splitting drumming that makes you an artist.
Gee come to think of it I'm an arrogant punk. Maybe I'll start my own record label...
I don't think it's necessarily the genre. There are plenty of rappers like Common and Jay-Z who don't do what Kanye does. Unfortunately, the worst of the genre is also the loudest. Like any genre, there is some really good stuff, and some really bad stuff. The blues has this as well. For every Joe Bonamassa there's a Steven Segal. Some of these guys are real wordssmiths, but unfortunately, a lot of them just use it as an excuse to curse a blue streak and degrade women.

This is a bold generalization that is not entirely true. I don't think Kanye West is very talented and he truly is an immature excuse for a performer, constantly insulting people and taking advantage of his fans (even getting caught lip synching on SNL), but to say this genre requires no talent at all makes me question why you are on the Joe Bonamassa forum, because hip-hop music is very closely knit with the blues tradition.
Many in the hip-hop world are more along the lines of entertainers trying to make money, rather than legitimate artists, but I encourage everyone to check out more intelligent hip-hop music that is certainly more musical. For example The Roots, who utilize a live band and often play music of artists like Jimi Hendrix. Also check out Q-Tip, his newest album "The Renaissance" does not have any bad language, but instead is a bold and poetic artistic statement which also features brilliant music performed by modern jazz musicians like pianist Robert Glasper and guitarists Kurt Rosenwinkel and Mike Moreno.
I suppose I shouldn't be so strident with some of my opinions, but in the end that's all they are...my opinions. I'm sure there's music I like that would leave others shaking their heads. I personally don't care for Taylor's music (not Taylor the person) because I do listen to alot of Country artists and don't see her being any better than someone singing in a local bar for tips. Nashville is nothing but an idolmaking factory. They bring in exceptional session musicians, songwriters, producers/handlers and voila they have the next creation. Last fall there was a release of Christmas songs by the new divas that didn't have the usual slick production, and her song was not flattering - wouldn't of made it to Hollywood.
That said, this young woman should never have been subjected to such a disgraceful publicity stunt by an over-the-hill rapper punk. I'm hoping that he'll soon join Chris Brown in the deserved toilet bowl and quickly forgotten. Can we have a courtesy flush please!
i'm strident in my opinion that kanye west, taylor swift, and beyonce are polluting the minds of america and the world's youth with substance free pop music. of course mtv is a big culprit. i was pretty happy today when someone at work was like so how bout the vma's last night and i had no clue what they were talking about. haven't watched it for years. i really believe watching mtv makes people dumber. it is a half hour of bad music every few days mixed with a lot of mind erasing reality crap.
kanye really isn't that talented. and i'm not generalizing rap. though it isn't my cup of tea, you can do good with it. he mumbles about how great he is, at least in all of his singles. nah nahnah wait til i get my money right. then yoa can't tell me nothin. you were saying? he sucks, his singles do not leave me wanting more and the fact that he sells millions while so many good artists sell next to nothing speaks to the problem of the music industry at large.

I hated disco, so why should I like hiphop? And when was the last time you heard of two blues artists shooting it out at a nightclub or getting caught with unlicensed handguns in their Escalade?
Like I said it's the whole genre. Punk-a$$ stuff.
