Topic: Question about my Boss Compressor Limiter?

I bought a compressor awhile back because I have allways seen them in my guitar mags. Can anybody tell me how to use one? LOL! Right now I am running through a Boss Tuner, Fulltone OCD pedal, Maxon OD9, Dunlop Wah, Fulltone Deja Vibe 2. Should I place the pedal at the end of all of this or the beginning or the middle? Any comments are welcome. Also comments on the proper way of using one would be helpful.
Thanks!!

Rob

Re: Question about my Boss Compressor Limiter?

I recommend using it first in your signal chain, right after your guitar.

Set the volume to 3:00
compression to 9:00
tone at 12:00
attack on Zero

Not a bad place to start, and it's where mine's set at.

Boss recommends starting with the attack on "10" but I find that this just accentuates "popping" sounds when hitting notes.  Compressors are notorious for this, to some extent.

Re: Question about my Boss Compressor Limiter?

zosozep7, I like your effects lineup.  We've got similarities...

I'm running, in this order:

Boss CS-3 compressor
Morley volume (old big box)
Thomas Organ Cry Baby (1970-ish)
Digitech Bad Monkey (replaced my Tube Screamer)
Fulltone Deja Vibe 2
Line 6 Roto Machine (signal splits into stereo here)
Boss Stereo Tremolo/Panner

Rack effects:
A/DA Digital Delay
Vestax Stereo Reverb
MVR dual 10 band graphic EQ

I built a custom channel amp switch to switch between:
Clean Tones - Fender and Marshall DSL(clean channel)
Dirty Tones - Hiwatt and Marshall DSL(overdrive channel)

Re: Question about my Boss Compressor Limiter?

Hey Craig! The fulltone deja Vibe is the same, thats for sure. I love that pedal! Gets me that Jimi, Gilmore sound. I have a Fulltone Clyde Wah but it is virtuall useless with a Fender amp. To high pitched. Maybe Im not using it properly though. I am experimenting with pedals. Im looking at the Vodoo Labs Sparkle Drive next. I had a rotovibe but didnt really use it much so I sold it. I play simple so I really dont need alot of effects. I bought a Fender Super Sonic and that does wonders for me. I get the best of both worlds for me anyways. Trying to get rid of my Mesa Lone Star. Also have a Fender Hot Rod that I like alot. Would like to try a tube Marshall or Soldano

Re: Question about my Boss Compressor Limiter?

Ha.  I had a Rotovibe, too, and sold it when I bought the Deja Vibe.

I also own an Acetone Stereo Phasor that I don't use much.  I like the stereo effect it has but it's subtle.  Prior to that, I has a Firstman Stereo Rotary Effector.  Similar pedal but actually slowed down and sped up like a Leslie.

I sprung for the Stereo Deja Vibe but ended up liking it better in mono.

The Roto Machine, on the other hand, sounds 10 times better in stereo.  Very chorus/leslie.  You gotta try one.

My Fender amp is a Hot Rod Deluxe that's been retubed.  Running a ported 1x12 extension cab with an EVM 12L along with the stock speaker.  I only use the normal channel.
