Topic: Ruthie Foster, musician from Austin Texas

Just wanted to see if anyone is a fan of Ruthie Foster's.  She currently lives in Austin Texas and came out with a new album recently that i just recently discovered and am going to purchase in the near future.  YouTube has many videos of her.  She has a great voice, and plays guitar as well.

The new album seems awesome and it has gotten some good reviews as well.

Check her out @ http://www.ruthiefoster.com/

I hope everyone's day is going well.

Yes she does have a great voice.  She plays that Austin area frequently so i am going to try to get out and see her within the next few months.

If i am able to make it to see her, i will let you know how it was.

Re: Ruthie Foster, musician from Austin Texas

I got into Ruthie 's music quite heavily and have a fair collection of her songs.  Her best album imo is The Phenominal Ruthie Foster - very solid effort with more variety than her blues/folk songs.  I think I read somewhere she's related to Stephen Foster and her cover of "Oh, Susannah" is very moving and would've made Mr. Foster proud.  Other songs of hers I really like are: "Another Rain Song", "Full Circle" and "Runaway Soul" to name a few.
Austin , Texas seems to be the music capital of the world and a great place to live.

Saw her support Eric Bibb in Edinburgh a few years ago and bought a couple of her albums. Great voice. I'll have to re-quaint myself with her music and check out her new stuff. Thanks for the info.

Re: Ruthie Foster, musician from Austin Texas

I've seen Ruthie a couple times now, and she is really great! First time was last year at Bayfront Blues Festival; second was this year when she and her band opened for the Derek Trucks Band. She sat in with Derek for the song "Goin' Down Slow", which can be heard on the internet archive now as streaming music. Here is one source:

Just click on "Goin' Down Slow" (or listen to the whole show for that matter).

Ruthie is on the cover of the new "Blues Review". I've been on a few Blues Cruises with her, and really enjoy her music and her spirit. Another of those really nice people.   Cathy

Re: Ruthie Foster, musician from Austin Texas

Back in Feb I won tickets from JamBase for a Guitar Blues show at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg (some of you may remember me looking for someone to use the other ticket), and Ruthie was one of the 3 artists featured (the other 2 were Jorma Kaukonen and Robben Ford).  Prior to that, I was familiar with all 3 artists in name only, but I'm glad I had that opportunity, because I enjoyed them all very much.  I was quite impressed with Ruthie... wouldn't mind catching her again sometime. smile
