Re: Tab Benoit show...

One of the best live...no doubt.  Great guitarist and still underrated vocally...one of the absolute best.   Nice and Warm and Fever for the Bayou are gems.

Re: Tab Benoit show...

This one was a gem. Since it was the opening of the new Stargazer's... he played a 75 minute set had a 30 minute intermission and then another 75 minute set. Absolutely incredible. I sat in the third row about 20 feet from him at the most... unfortunately I didn't have a camera with me.

What an amazing guitar player... and I completely agree... his vocals are WAY underrated. AND, he is very funny. Told jokes and talked quite a bit (but not too much).

The first set was blazing... don't really know the song names so i can't give you a set list, but I do know he played Night Train... the first 75 minute set rushed by and I couldn't wait for the second.

He came back out non-chalantley and just picked up a guitar, sat on a chair and did two songs by himself and talked about the bad situation in the swamp lands right now and actually caught my attention on that.

Then the band came out again. He was taking requests on both sets, but more so on this one. Somebody requested a song he had already played and he joked about that for a while. "While you were getting loaded you missed your favorite song man... and I'm not playing it again..." (all said in good humor obviously). It's hard to explain the whole thing since there is SO MUCH to say and needless to say I have a headache right now, but this was really a great show. The highlight was "Jambalaya"... during this he got on the drums and WOW... he is an amazing drummer. After that he came out for an encore and talked again for a little bit.

I got his autograph afterwards and he was a really nice guy (and patient with an extremely drunk... extremely impatient man). My dad really enjoyed himself and got into it.

Side note: I was sporting my Joe Bonamassa long sleeve shirt, when, after the show, someone came up and said "Hey man, nice SHIRT! That guy is amazing."

Great night and totally worth the potentially tired day tomorrow.

Re: Tab Benoit show...

The first (and only) time I saw Tab, was when I walked into the Crossroads show in Chicago at about 10:30AM...there's a stage behind the arena and I heard a great sound coming from there.
Naturally, we wandered that way and found Tab entertaining the early arrivals. He was great and we sat and watched the rest of his set, maybe an hour or so. A very down to earth guy who joked about being relegated to the "back porch" and that maybe next year they'd invite him into the house, which cracked me up.
I've been a fan ever since!

Re: Tab Benoit show...

Sadly, this was the first year he wasn't on the January Cruise. Tab always wins the "Jammingest Pro" award on the Cruise..He would play anywhere, anytime, with anyone..He was missed!! He is a very sweet guy and truly grieves about the continued mess in Louisiana. Wonderful voice and talented guitar player. I am partial to "Whiskey Store"..a CD he did with Jimmy Thackery..highly recommended, esp. the title track!   Cathy

p.s. Probably should have posted this under "Other Artists"...no biggie

Re: Tab Benoit show...

Thanks for the review, I'm interested in hearing more about Tab Benoit.  Mods, any chance this could be moved to Other Artists?

cheers

Roy, two questions:

1) didn't I see a pic of you with a telecaster?

and

2) if yes, did you get him to sign it?

cheers!

Re: Tab Benoit show...

Hey Tom,

I have a Fender Telecaster (you probably saw this picture on Facebook: http://www.flickr.com/photos/8384830@N0 … 919241686/ ), but did not bring it with me to Wausau. I did have though, my Taylor acoustic/electric which Albert Cummings signed and tried to talk me out of. wink He also signed a picture of us taken last year when I saw him in Chicago.

I was going to stay to the end of Tab's perfromance, but Dawn came to get me while I was filming, because Jacque wasn't feeling well. We had taken one car from the hotel in Rothschild about 7 miles south of Wausau, so we all decided to go back to the hotel. What we should have done was taken two cars and then Jacque could have left and gone back to the hotel to go to bed. However, none of us knew Albert was still there and that he would later join Tab on stage. Had I stayed, I would have recorded that. Albert wrote me to thank me for the videos and pictures I took and then a day or two later wrote again asking if I had a video of him and Tab performing. That's when I knew he actually did get up with Tab. Yes, I'm still kicking myself for leaving but hey, I know how it is if you've got a bad headache; all you want to do is lay down.

Anyway, I didn't get Tab to sign my Taylor, but I did get to spend some time with my friend Albert jawing about different things. He really is a great guy and one heck of a guitar player/singer. Great writer of music too! smile It's also probably good that I didn't stay for the "after-show" get together that Albert asked if I was coming to. I have a funny feeling I would have gotten back really late (early?) to the hotel and would have been in a heap of trouble. yikes lol

Re: Tab Benoit show...

Sounds like you did OK tho Roy! There will be more Tab Benoit shows in your future! Just don't forget the Tele!

I had that newly obtained Gibson Nighthawk in my truck when I saw him and tossed that around in my mind, but wound up having him sign a couple of CDs instead. If it was my Tele in the truck... cool

Re: Tab Benoit show...

Not a show, but over this past weekend I did pick up Tab Benoit's latest album called, "Medicine". Simply said, Excellent! Great Blues mixed with a little Louisiana Cajun seasoning. wink

As they say down there, "Laissez les bon temps rouler!" (Let the good times role!) cool
