Ok Bill, you got me all curious and nostalgic... I did some searching for specs and photos... seems the 1965 Polara had a 122" wheel base... and I had the full-size 4-door model.  Here's the closest pic I could find... this was basically my car, similar condition too, except mine was blue... sigh...

Oh, and get this... one weekend that I was home from college, I slipped on some ice and crashed my Polara into a telephone pole, crumpling the fender to the point that it was undrivable (would've been much worse in a "normal" car).  I needed a cheap car fast to get back to college and for daily use, so my parents quick found a $450 Chevy Chevette (otherwise known as my "Shitvette").  Imagine going from an 8-cylinder 383 engine, to a 4-cylinder 212 engine!  I'd go up hills (even slight inclines) chanting "I think I can, I think I can..."  But at least I didn't have to worry about speeding anymore... not only was it was almost impossible, but I didn't even mind, as 55 mph felt like 75 mph in that car (as opposed to 90 mph feeling like 55 mph in the Polara, lol).  But that car had problems and didn't last too long, so I used my parents' Dodge Aries station wagon for a little while... so uncool, lol.  Then for a graduation present my parents spent the money to fix up my Polara, including a new paint job... I was so in my glory to have my baby back!  Never got rid of it til I was 22, and then it was mainly because I was pregnant and needed a car with back seatbelts!  Sold it to a friend of my brother, and we just happened to run into him together last year and found out that car was still on the road until not all that long ago... amazing. cool

I do believe that car WAS bulletproof.
One of my favorite things about it: Center pull down armrest in the back seat.

I owned both a 1976 and 1974 Chevy Vega. Some of the biggest junk ever made. The only good part was that that me and my girlfriend could use the hatchback for fun as it was almost like a station wagon in back!!! Good memories in that car!!

Ah, you're a man after my own heart there BluesCrazy. For my first car, I bought my dad's old Rambler which had fold down bucket seats in the front. At the drive-in my girl and I would get in back and put our feet up on the reclined buckets. It was also great for just parking and ....uh hum...."workin' on mysteries without any clues". Ah yes, the good old days in the old Rambler. wink

I have never seen so much metal in my life.

I'm with NPB for my future car , with 65 mpg , zero car tax, zero London congestion charge.

Wow Crossroads, not only does it get 65 mpg, but you can drive on the side of freeway and tunnel walls! wink That's really going to help me with passing those slow people that ride the left (passing) lane and drive under the speed limit here in America! lol I wonder if it can actually do a 360 degree arc in a tunnel?

Ok, I'm having a little fun with cars, but get this. This morning on the old boob tube, they showed a new car by Chevy called the "Volt". They said it would get 230 mpg. Hmmmm.....how interesting that they "just discovered" how to get 230 mpg in an American made car. Check it out:

My first car was a 1959 Dodge Polara, faded out black with big yellow flowers all over it. Quite the cop magnet! Even had pushbutten transmission.

Re: Wackiest Cars Owned By Forum Members

Ok i don't actually own this car but a friend of my brothers has one very similar and took me for a spin in his. I think it has a 2.0 litre ford engine but in such a small/light vehicle the accelleration was phenomenal, I thnk we hit about 110mph aswell and being so low to ground, that felt really quick lol.

Needless to say I would like one if i can save up enough funds. I'll need to be out of univeristy and have a real job before the insurance is affordable aswell roll

Heres a pic:

Re: Wackiest Cars Owned By Forum Members

I paid 100 cash to a dealer for a Grenn black vinyl stripped 1970's Gremlin back in the early 80's.
Car ran forever...gave it to my brother...he sold it for a few hundred &  it was still going
strong for years after that.....I think it was a straight  6 cylinder....burned no oil at all.
This car would not die...even when my tranny line broke and I lost all of the fluid..Once the
line was replaced and refilled back up...it shifted fine...The best 100 I ever spent in my life...:)
They don't make them like that anymore.....

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........
