Topic: Joe and Steve Winwood

The most important news first: Joe HAS played with Steve Winwood.

The Winterbach concert was announced as a double feature: Joe and Steve Winwood. I was hoping all the time that   there would be a playing together, but you didn´t know. Well, there was first Joe´s performance which was very intense....it was only short (about 50 minutes), but very compact: John Henry, Last Kiss, So Many Roads, Further on the Road and Great Flood ( (with Sandy singing, very good), Woke up dreaming and Just Got Paid. The audience was excited, you could feel the passion for Joe´s performance,

Then Steve was starting his set:nice, but not really exciting. After some songs they got some more fire in a kind of funky soul song. And then Stevie introduced in his gentle way Joe for two songs. Joe appeared on stage, a bit shy and full of respect for the older one: It was touching to see the young star coming together with the older one. They played two songs together:a Stevie Winwood song which I knew but don´t remember the title (something with boy and high) and Crossroads). It was wonderful: the way they met each other and the music they played. Another great concert.

You are up way too early Günter, i thought i could make the first post big_smile

There is not much to add, Joes Performance was very inspiring and intense, like you said, but way tooooo short for my taste.  After this hot performace in the tent we went to the nice (muddy after the afternoons thunderstorm, a bit like Woodstock) Biergarten ourside and had two cold ones, so we came back after Steves performance already begun.

Joes Silver Jubilee Marshall was on stage, so it was obvious that Joe should appear for one or more songs, and the it happend, Joe was introduced by Steve an entered the stage. Like Günter, i don't know the title of the first song they played together, but Crossroads was definetly a highlight for me.  It was very moving when Joe left the stage with a bow in front of Steve. The "sad" thing was that the battery of my mobile phone died right before Joe started playing with Steve, so there are, at least from my side, no pics or vid mad

That's it, Rocket. That was the song they played before Crossroads.

To be honest, Oliver, I was still up at four in the morning: we´ve decided that such a nice evening shouldn´t be ended without the one or other glass of wine and beer.

As Oliver already said: Rocket, you are  as so often - absolutely right.

That is way too cool that Joe played a couple of songs with Stevie.  Both of those are great songs, it would really have been cool if they had time to play "Had to Cry Today" together!

Music is good for the Soul...

nor from my side: I had my camera with me, but there was a very rigorous ""security"" not allowing any picture. And as I was standing in the first row I was under strict surveillance.

Re: Joe and Steve Winwood

Yes, Joe playing with "half a Blind Faith" was pretty cool! cool

My grandma came along for Joe´s set - all prepared with earplugs and mud-resistant shoes (as opposed to me - my shoes are a complete mess - they should be red, but are brown with Winterbach-mud right now!).
Imagine a 84-year old woman rocking out on her seat ... she really enjoyed herself and was very impressed with Joe´s playing. What a rocking grandma! wink

I didn´t get to hear too much of the Winwood part of the show, but came in at the end of his set right in time for a big drum solo and Joe´s appearance - hopefully someone will post a video of that. Steve had a good band with him and I really enjoyed the part of the show I saw - some people said it was a bit of a "best of" set, but obviously that´s what people want to hear. The audience was really euphoric and I saw a lot of people walking out asking about Joe´s tour schedule ... some new fans made for sure. One of them even bought all of the CDs and the DVD available at the merch-table ... maybe we´ll see him on the forum sometime soon. wink

Off to Cologne now .... Eva

The event is sponsored by a Stuttgart radio station: I hope that they´ve at least taped the show.

Re: Joe and Steve Winwood

Thanks for the reviews guys and gals.
Joe must have been on cloud nine....getting to play with another of his heroes smile
I know Low Spark is a song Joe really likes as he has played it a coupe of times on his radio show.

Tripsy smile

Re: Joe and Steve Winwood

WOW!!! THIS IS FANTASTIC NEWS!!!  Its hard for me to describe how exciting this is to hear, being a huge Winwood fan for many years.  The first time I saw Steve was with Traffic while they were touring back in the 70's to promote "The Low Spark of High Heel Boys." I headed to the beach this weekend and raided some of my hubby's CD's before I got in the car...I took 3 Traffic CD's with me including Low Spark...I had Stevie on mind, so how cool to now read this post. wink  My hubby just recently started playing this song on his guitar, I love the intro into the song.

I still would have liked to have been a fly on the wall the first time Clapton or Winwood heard Joe's version of Had To Cry Today or what they collectively said, which you know they talked about...in my mind, I just think Joe shows the song the ultimate respect, both Steve and Eric were instant Joe fans when they heard it the first time. smile

If there are any posts or links where Joe mentioned anything about Steve, please share the link.  Thanks bonabuddies and thanks for the post Gunter! smile

Rocket, i'm sure you have already seen this but just in case you didn't...there is a version of Low Spark on Youtube now from the show the other night. As with the Crossroads tune, the quality isn't the best but great to see and experience anyway. Ya gotta love it !!!!!!! Larry G
