Guilfest - anybody going ? (Page 1 of 2)

I've been thinking about it but Joe's the only act I really want to see.  All in all it's not looking favourite for me even though that means I'll have to wait until the Southamton gig December to see Joe again.

How long do you reckon his set will be at Guilfest?

I reckon its gonna be a 90 minute set....

"Stellar" a word used by Joe Bonamassa (also apt as a description of the man himself )

The way I look at it; Joe going to be playing in front of a very big crowd and the way the weather has been means it should be a very good show.

I am going to the show; and only to see Joe play as I have not heard of any of the other that are going to be at the show.

To me it will be the first time that I have seen Joe play outside and to a crowd larger than 2000. So I am looking forward to it.

Does anybody have an idea what time Joe will play!!!!:D

Rocket - you'll understand why I never got tickets for Guilfest when I heard who would be on the main stage while Joe was playing. Two of my biggest music heroes at the same fest but playing at the same time is just too much to figure. I know time and substances have left Brian a shadow of what he once was but his music has touched my life and fair play to him for battling on through all that and getting out on the road again. Brian is a musical genius, and my choice between he and Joe at Guilfest may just have been influenced by the time I've spent in the surf in Cornwall over the last week (Ok - it's not quite California, but it's the nearest thing we have! But perhaps the Surfari's "Wipeout" would be a better soundtrack to my week? )

So come on Gary - please can we have a review from you of Joe's set?

Encore, - not sure what song that was and was not listed on the playlist which one of the road crew very kindly gave to us, and it was the one song in the set that I did not recognise, and tbh a bit of a comedown after Joe had got us all worked up with Just Got Paid with his Jimmy Page solo.

We were also lucky enough to pick up Joe's plectrum that he threw into the crowd at the end, - my 10 year old son is using it right now playing Enter Sandman as I type this!, - jut changed to Snshine of Your Love (his favorite)!

Joe was superb, - only an hour which is not enough, - I really was hoping he would get out the Chandler Lectra Slide and play Burning Hell but understand the pressures of these festival sets and their limited time.

As for the rain, - it bucketed it down, - we got into the crowd for the prior act; Lightning Seeds, - which was a nice melodic pop moment, - managed to get to the front row. We had intended to get back to the main stage for the first 30 minutes of Brian Wilson but did not want to lose our spot. OK, - BW has had a massive influence on my music appreciation (layering of sounds) since hearing Good Vibrations as a child but sorry BW, - Joe is the future and looking forward I wanted my 10 year old guitar playing son to see first hand the wonder that is Joe Bonamassa, - he was in awe, - - my 9 year old daughter not a big fan of guitar based music even enjoyed it despite being soaked through, - and she does not handle cold very well.

The 4 of us walked away from the show very happy albeit very wet!

We will catch an indoor show next time!

QQ: Does anybody know what the guitar is that Joe opened with on B of JH? Son thought it was a PRS, but the head was a different shape I think.

Without seeing it, it's an educated guess, but most likely an Ernie Ball Music Man.  You can use the "search" function on the forum to look for for other posts on this subject.

You were doing so well and until you did not recognise the oncore - it was India/Mountain Time a classic Bona number. Seriously great to have new fans on board, there were two next to me who left with that jaw dropping experience. Joe was amazing and the second stage was packed right until the end despite the shocking weather.

The fest was well run and enjoyable apart from the fact the act times could not be found on their website which is a shame as the forum seemed to think Joe would be on earlier and longer giving us a chance to catch some of Brian Wilson - not to be unfortunately.

The journey home dripping wet was over 3 hours but who cares after another great Bone experience.

no problem at all with posting the link to the video replayer, - I posted it on YouTube so others could share in what I was lucky enough to experience, -  and the lovely lady to my side who was concerned about my daughters welfare asked if I would post it up on YouTube so that she and her young son could find it and watch.

Thanks for the "Sunshine" link, - my son has watched this, - he loves the way JB just wanders around!

It could have been a Music Man, - was on the MM stand a couple of weeks ago and saw Albert Lee at LIMS and this one that JB was playing looked a lot better, -  paint jobs are normally pretty flat one colour jobs and this one was a red to black fade, and think the body had a bit more carve to it. I have done a search on the site and did trawl through the encylopaedia article but could not find a reference to it, - no worries.

As for the last song, happy to express my ignorance on that one and confess that my knowledge of JB only started when I found Planet Rock digital radio station about 6 months ago. Happy to say that myself and son were big fans from buying B of JH and Sloe Gin, - now even my wife and daughter are quite keen! Think I will get the album with Burning Hell on it next!

We did not know the show times until we found a crumpled program on the floor, - sorry Guilfest £5 sounded a lot to me so we passed on that one. We spent more than enough on tickets, food, drinks, sweets, silly hat for my son etc.
