Topic: Behind The Nut Harmonic

In Joe's "Signature Sounds, Styles & Techniques" DVD, during the Stratocaster part, Joe demonstrates the SRV behind the nut harmonic riff, does anyone know how it's done?

Re: Behind The Nut Harmonic

Yes!  It's the old classic SRV "Riviera Paradise" trick.  All you have to do is with your fretting hand (I'm assuming left if you are right handed) pluck the G string hard behind the nut.  Because of the tension behind the nut, I usually use my pointer and middle fingers to really pluck it.  It sounds cool when you add some vibrato with the wammy bar too.  Good luck!

Re: Behind The Nut Harmonic

Of course this is not to be confused with the G harmonic bend in Zeppelin's Dazed and confused there you hit a 5th fret harmonic, and bend the string up behind the nut.  OR Sabbath's iron man where you just hit the low E and bend it higher behind the nut... But I'm sure everyone knows that one. big_smile
