Topic: Studen Loans stink!

I just gradauated with my Master's degree... and now for the amount borrowed!?

$60,000

Between $300 and $400 dollars a month for the next 30 years will make me pay more than double the amount I borrowed. sheesh!

That makes me a sad panda!

sad

SIXTY GRAND !!!??

Phew !!

Don't you guys get help from the Govt with the loans ?
In the UK the interest rate for student loans is really low.......mind you they all are at the mo.

Hope the degree was in something really good.

Well done though.
Must be a great relief to have it.

My student loans came to about the same amount, but I was able to consolidate them into one loan at 2.7% interest for 30 years. My payments are $261.00 per month. This includes an additional 1/4% rate reduction by having the amount taken directly out of my account each month.

Re: Studen Loans stink!

I´d say tuition fees stink! wink

We used to have free access to university when I started, but after two terms the Government decided that they need more money, so we all have to pay since then. I know we´re not paying as much as students in America, but we had huge discussions about "social equity" anyway ....

But anyway - congratulations on graduating with your Master´s degree!
I have three terms to go still ...

Might be a low interest rate, but I've just finished my degree and now have a minimum of at least £18,000 to pay back one day sad  Hope it's worth it when I find out my results!

Sorry, I am probably in the minority, but I don't want my tax dollars paying for someone else's college tuition.
This is probably whining, but I'm already paying for Social Security I'll probably never see a penny of, family health care costs that are through the roof, taxes for Medicare & Medicaid programs that are fraught with fraud, college tuitions for my kids, my portion (who knows what that's gonna be) of the "stimulous" package, not to mention the cost of two upcoming weddings. In the meantime, my meager retirement investments have gone down the crapper, my salary has been cut by 10% and our cow has gone dry (ok, I made that last one up).
Whew, thanks, I feel a bit better just getting that all off my chest!

Yeah outa compassion, I tried not to go there...but I just can't help it.

DO NOT WHINE TO ME ABOUT PAYING A BILL YOU SIGNED ON FOR.  whew...

Think about it.  You wanted the credentials.  They cost money.

I think the biggest part of your education just hit you.  All of you students.  The name of the game is money and how to separate you from yours.

It goes both ways though...

Why lawyers are so expensive....? their over $100,000+ student loan bills... that not including their loans from their bachelor's degree, etc. It's not the over-head so much. It is "what they went through to know what you don't about the law, and how much they paid to learn it."

Re: Studen Loans stink!

I'm not saying that taxpayers should pay for other people's tuition feees - I agree that it's not up to you to fund, it's my choice, my money to spend!  Just annoyed that loans in England went up from £1000 and something, to £3000 a year - for the same level of education, the same resources as was available before. Gah!
And now I'm considering doing a Masters degree - more money to end up paying back! lol

Actually, it's whatever the market will bear. If you can get someone to pay $450/hour for your services, then that's what you're going to charge.
If you can get someone to pay $100,000 for tuition....

Nor do I, Bill. But if I have to pay taxes at all I prefer them to be used as a government´s investing in manpower by giving free acces to education, cheap students´loans etc , and less as excessive military spendings and helping bankrupt banks

Re: Studen Loans stink!

Hey Nic,

Look on the bright side. With the Masters degree that you have, how much more money during your life will you make if you had no college education at all? Don't get me wrong, $60,000 is a lot of money, but 30 years from now when you're my age, you'll say how much it was worth it. smile

Hi Nic,
Congratulations on your achievement, you should be very proud of yourself.
I hope you can shrink your green hairy monster to a manageable size and one day, you will look back and say it was all worth it.
Good luck to you..............Tripsy smile

Gunter,
I certainly can't argue with that! There's a great idea...when you pay your taxes, you get to fill out a form and choose where you'd like your hard earned tax dollars to go.
