Michael Schumacher was........The Stig!
Never George, is that really true .... Come to think of it No wonder anybody could ever beat his lap time
......................... Michael
Is that really true or are ya me
I didn't see it myself, but Dutch news text reported that Clarkson had announced this on the show tonight, having previously said that he would be doing so in his column in the currant bun.
Of course, Clarkson could be telling porkies for some devious reason.

I laughed my little socks off at the Big Reveal on last night's Top Gear programme. What a lap time! What a car! No wonder Ferrari won't let anyone drive it.
Clever stunt, but know way is he the stig. His fee alone would would wipe out the budget.

You're absoutely right. He was there to drive that glorious black Ferrari - very very quickly I have to say - knocking 7 seconds off the lap was just phenominal! My guess he was asked to don the Stig's outfit as a prank! I remember reading somewhere that there are a number of "Stigs", depending on who is available - which seems reasonable to me.
Former F1 driver Perry McCarthy was rumoured to be one, if not the first, Stig. There have been others as well. They've done a nice job in mysticising it over the years. Grabbing Schumi and revealing him is a great stunt, but no more.
Anyway, if it had been Schumi all these years when anyone came to close to his lap time he would have just spun and parked the car in the middle of the track blocking it. It never happened so it can't have been him
That said, sorry for the dig Schumi. For all his flaws probably the finest driver the sport has ever seen. I say this even as a Senna fan on the basis that I don't think even Senna could have helped turn Ferrari's fortunes around the way Schumi did, but we'll never know. I'm glad he got out of the sport alive.

I think we saw the reasons why Schumi was the bomb in the interview, and he readily admitted it as well. What is the common link from Benneton, Ferrari and now Brawn. Ross Brawn was the man behind the team in all of those teams, and alll won prolifically. Clarkson asked him was it the car? Schumi - Yes, of course, it is a team effort top to bottom. Fair play still needs to drive the thing around the track, so he will always be remembered for how good he was, but I think it was more of a Team Schumi affair.
I heard that the current stig was a guy called Ben Collins, with Perry McCarthy being the previous one, but he lost his Job for revealing it in an autobiography!
tewky
Yeah, i think we all know now, Michael Schumacher is NOT the real Stig. I have always thought it was Johnny Herbert.
~ Brack ~
Sorry Brack but can't see Johnny Herbert as the Stig - doesn't have the right height or build. My money's always been on Damon Hill. Whoever he is though, I rather like the mystery and speculation about Stig's real identity and it certainly can't hurt viewing figures for Top Gear.
F1 drivers can be any size (well maybe not my size ) Mansell, Button and Coultard are all 6' tall. Over 6' is rare but has happened in the past. They build the car around the driver. Looks a snug fit but it is all taylor made.
I have been to two recordings of TG and each time they a Stig there. i would say they simply put anyone into the suit int the studio. On the track i would imagine it is the same drive, otherwise the times would be a joke. You get Tiff one week and Schumacher the next it is hardly a fair comparison.

OK, but F1 drivers are all small and slight build, they have to be to fit into the cockpit. Someone mentioned there's more than one stig! which is possible, i never thought of that before, but it is a possibility. And your right, it doesn't hurt the viewing figures!
