RIP 1959 Gibson GA-5 amp. It said 110v on the wall. It was not I assure you..

Man that sucks!  I wonder if any of the other parts survived and it would just need a couple new transformers and/or tubes?  Regardless that would definately put a damper on my day...oh wait Joe has the privledge of playing the most expensive amps in the world at home!  Doh!

Not sure but I think he meant it was destroyed while being shipped to him in Greece.

The ga 5 isn't that the one sold with the skylark lap steel back in the day? Ironic, I purchased a 59 gibson skylark a few months ago for my sons 21st b'day. I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled for the matching amp for his 22nd.

That sucks Joe, 110v it was not, that old vintage amp must have fried.......bummer  sad

Spider it was a voltage problem...Joe, invest in a Fluke T5 Voltage, Continuity and Current Tester.
With the TLK291 Fused test probe set.

Joe probably saw the 110v outlet for shavers in the bathroom and assumed the supply was 110v throughout.

I'd have to believe he has known that for a long time seeings how he's been traveling Europe many, many years now.  However, I can see my friend plugging into the bathroom outlet with that '59 Gibson GA-5 amp and was thinkin', A-Ha!  I'm going to get some good old fashioned classic slapback bathroom echo while I work this Greek rockabilly tune up! Well, we get even because almost everyone else has to buy step-up transformers...
