Yes I know that you mean and I agree, they are totally different, it's just some people think "white boy playing rockin blues" and make the association based on a lack of awareness.  Read the reviews and articles on Joe and you'll find so many.  This makes me think Joe would be unlikely to pick a song that is associated with SRV.

Hi Glen Winfrey, how many albums do you think Joe would ahve done if he's recorded all the suggestions on here! lol

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

Yeah, I don't see Joe doing anything Stevie-related. He's starting to get out from under that shadow, and I doubt he'll go there for quite a while. Maybe like 20 years, if ever. It is a shame though, because Stevie's stuff is so brilliant. But, Joe's gotta do what Joe's gotta do.

And I did hear some Stevie influence early on, particularly in shuffles like So It's Like That and You Upset Me Baby. But the thing about Joe is that in addition to that there were so many other influences. But I always heard that influence early on, I think it was kinda impossible to not have some of that back then because Stevie's shadow was so huge. But I've heard it much less so though from Had To Cry Today and on.

Wow... the number of CD's would be staggering! While I enjoy hearing covers that Joe super charges, and emulates style... (and the tribute riffs) not just the song. I enjoy the original music Joe creates!!! Every new CD shows a different style, and just how creative Joe really is. Keep em' coming Joe!

Would really love to hear a Stevie cover from Joe. Or something like Little Wing or Voodoo Chile'. But I think he doesn't want to play this songs because poeple will start comparing him with Jimi or Stevie (again).

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

if you step outside of pure blues and get into blues rock, there are as many or more white players.  blues isn't about race, and most people who say try to say things like i don't olike that white boy blues stuff (always qualified with except srv) probably can't name a single white blues artist post srv.  and you know what, i bet they can't name a single black blues or blues rock artist post srv either.  i'll chalk any srv comparisons up to ignorance.

Agreed! smile

By the way, Melvin Taylor may be of interest to those of you looking for some SRV covers. Try his album "Dark Pool".

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I would really love to hear Joe cool do the following songs:

"I am the blues" which was written by Dave Kelly cool of The Blues Band

"Loosing You Put The Blues In Me" which was written by Tom McGuinness cool and Dave Kelly cool of The Blues Band and The Manfreds

"Down To The River" which was written by Paul Jones cool of The Blues Band etc.

It's very difficult to choose which Gary Fletcher cool (bass player with The Blues Band and lead singer with The Gary Fletcher Band) song Joe could cover, because Gary is a very prolific songwriter and has written tons of them, a lot haven't been recorded yet.  hmm

I think that Joe's guitar would sound really great smile on "Told No Lie's", but if he fancied something wilder there's "Can't Get Arrested", "Take Me To The Redline", or "You Took Me To The Edge".  Then there's "It Takes The Blues To See" and for something really chilling "Solanki's Knife".   wink

I think that Joe's record producers hmm should listen to some of the above mentioned very awesome songs, as they have lots of blues content for Joe to get his teeth (or guitar) into. wink big_smile

OK, I know this thread has been around before.... but was wondering what tunes new and old members alike, would love to hear Joe do as a cover. Not your favorite oldie, but a true bluesy rock solid song of the past, that Joe could do... only as Joe can do.

One of mine would be "Rock Candy", written by Ronnie Montrose, Sam Hagar, Bill Church & Dennis Carmassi.

Rory Gallagher, Leslie West, Johnny and Edgar Winter tunes would be in my top ten as well.

What's yours?
