Derek will come for another concert to Germany, and it´s -lucky as we are- in Nürnberg. (21.7., Hirsch) He was one of my reasons to go to the Hot August festival, but I´m very happy to see him twice now in one month.
I´m definitely moved by his playing and I also share his love for world music, especially Indian style. Nonetheless he´s best when playing down to earth blues.

Sandy, did you manage to catch this on the BBC iPlayer or did it lock you out for being outside the UK?

I'm with Phil on this - I thought the band were brilliant and the recording on the Paul Jones show confirmed to me that my memory of the evening was spot on. Phil is quite right about the poor live sound of the vocals from where we were standing but the recording brings them out nicely. It doesn't bother me that DT is not a showman on stage as, for me, the music more than compensates. I can see why others may differ though but I rather like long jazzy jams.

I'm currently "listening again" to  The Derek Trucks live session. big_smile It's really awesome. big_smile They sound like a pretty cool band to the way they change the set list around according to mood etc. big_smile

I've just discovered that there are extra sessions on the Paul Jones Radio 2 website.  They are a bit hidden though.  They are not on the sessions page.;)

I was able to listen to this but couldn't record - awesome show.  He is a very interesting person.  Believe it or not he is more animated onstage than he used to be.  My brother saw him years ago in Florida when he was just starting out - said he wouldn't even face the audience most of the time!  I'm looking forward to seeing him in August.

Glad you managed to listen Sandy!  Don't forget to check out the great extra session tracks and full length interview by clicking on "shows and tracklisting" then on "1/06/09" then scroll down until you find the extra tracks and interview. smile

The Paul Jones Radio 2 website used to have a basement archive, comments page etc., but the BBC had a revamp of their whole Radio 2 website and those features which were extras didn't work on the new jazzy webpages.  sad   The programme producer, who is a good chap and a dedicated bluesman cool,  is currently trying to sneek in his extra features again.  He can't put anymore on the sessions page as they now get wiped out after 2 weeks rather than 4, so he seems to have hidden them on the track listing page. wink

Thanks for the extra link info Catfish Jane - unfortunately the website won't let me listen to the extended versions- now if my computer could only pretend it was in England - ran into something similar when I tried to watch some of those blues programs that where on when I was in London.  Doesn't the BBC want to share their stuff with the world?  Oh well.

Sorry that you can't listen to the extra DTB session tracks, I really thought that you should be able to. sad     I know that the TV, film clips etc. are blocked to outsiders, but blocking the radio is a bit mean, when you are able to 'listen again'.  I think that there are plans afoot to open up the BBC TV to the world, but for a fee!  It's because they are skint and also because they are big meanies.  mad Don't you think?

The Derek Trucks band were on really good form last night. They played a set of around 2 hours with a mixture of songs from Already Free, such as the opener Down In The Flood, Down Don’t Bother Me and Get What You Deserve, some tracks from Songlines like Find My Way and Crow Jane and some longer jams such as Soul Serenade and Get Out Of My Life Woman. A few tracks such as I Know were missing, but not to the detriment of the show as all in all it was a very impressive performance. Clearly the man focus was on DT himself, yet his playing while excellent was always within the context of the song, and the rest of the band are pretty talented too. The band went down really well with the crowd of around 250 which was very encouraging for a first headline show in the city and I’m sure that they will come back to Glasgow before too long and play to an even larger audience. Good support in the form of James Brown is Anne who are a blues/rock/funk band from the Edinburgh area. smile
