Bands like Dragonforce have some stunningly fast players, Herman Li is lethal quick.

A couple years ago when they first got big it was quickly found out that they aren't worth their weight in potatoes live

Cutting it live is make or break,  its the biggest disappointment to be let down by any bands performance.

I saw The Answer back in 2005 and they were awesome live.    A proper rock and roll band.

Re: How long can you play fast ?

When  I  started playing some 25 years ago I thought fast was everything which is pretty frustrating when you can’t  play fast . I decided to go back to grass roots, I started playing Beatles and focusing on chords and songs
The result was I understood how a song is constructed and how a riff fits in with the whole thing. Suddenly fast wasn’t important ,  intonation, tone , feel became more important and I started to enjoy what I played which meant I played more and guess what, because I played more I was able to play faster................ Wish I had done that right from the start

Enjoy what you play

Actually Danny it was Jimi bagging on the shredders (kinda) I was just havin a little fun.  There are some great shred players that can nail it live...yngwie is great live...He gives me a headache (like dragonforce),but is great live.  Jeff Loomis is amazing too, just saw him on youtube, about put my guitars on ebay.  Tony McAlpine was awesome live, just a gifted all around musician.  I got to open for Vinnie Moore (one of my biggest influences)in San Fran and I was wowed by his accuracy...Chris Broderick of megadeth nailed all of Marty friedmans stuff (and all the others)effortlessly,  my band decided to play Holy Wars and I have been working on it for two weeks...I have a new respect for those guys.

And JB and EJ got some shred in them too...And live the were inspiring to say the least.

I love it all I guess...what was my point?  Oh yeah...need to practice Holy Wars...
