Topic: Kim Wilson

Saw the Fabulous Thunderbirds at the robin 2 in Bilston last night. Never seen them before and had only gone along because my buys Virgil and the Accelerators were playing. I must say I was taken by surprise, Kim is something else on the mouth harp. Someone I was with was explaining to me the technicalities of how he plays the harp and it really is quite amazing. I love good harp and will go as far to say he is the best I have seen.
He did a non stop solo for well over 10 minutes, I am not musician so I hope this translates well but every second was full of a sustained low notes and separate rhythms at the same time. At times I swear he had 3 other players hidden away somewhere.
On another note Virgil and the boys played a blinder. They had requested if Kim could watch their set but we were told he was still in hotel and travel weary. However I noticed him in the wing of the stage towards the end of the set and they whipped up one of his numbers for the last track. He was beaming at this (thank god these things can backfire!). He was a real gent and took a little time we each of the lads to thank them. A great night.

Re: Kim Wilson

Kim's amazing. One of the best out there. Love the Thunderbirds, but I'm partial to their stuff with Jimmie Vaughan. But a great Texas boogie blues band.

Re: Kim Wilson

I have a Kim Wilson CD, Smokin' Joint, that I came across by accident and it is great.

Re: Kim Wilson

Saw Sugar Blue at the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival and he was really good.  He played on 3 Stones albums in the early 80's most notably the song "Miss You".
