Topic: Dana Fuchs

I can’t believe that we have no topic for this dynamite lady here yet.

Dana was one of the major surprises of the Schoeppingen festival! Quite apart from Joe’s unexpected and unrehearsed guest appearance for a medley with Dana and her band, this girl is good enough to succeed on her own. She’s got a stunning voice, chooses good songs to cover and has got one hell of a stage presence. She’s also a very sweet lady who is even willing to have her picture taken with sad old men! Please try and catch her at a venue near wherever you may live. Check her out here (she even tweets) - http://www.danafuchs.com/

I wasn’t alone in being knocked out by her – here’s what Eva had to say:

“I´ll have to gush about Dana in an extra topic, she just rocks. Loved the song she did with Joe as well as her excellent cover versions of songs like "Helter Skelter" or "I'd rather go blind" ... she has a voice quite like Janis, though I hate to make comparisons like that ... she sings and screams her heart out on stage - she´s really a "must-see".”

Yes, I filmed Joe’s entire 15 minutes on stage with Dana cool and will post the link just as soon as it’s ready (hopefully within the next 24 hours). Meanwhile, have a listen to her wonderful version of “I’d rather go blind” –

Incidentally, I told Dana that I'd be posting about her here and gave her the link. If you're looking in, Dana - girl, you rock!! big_smile

P.S. Once Marco has sorted through his hundreds of pictures, the best ones (along with shots of Joe, Michael Burks, Layla and all the other artists at the festival) will be posted here. Please make sure to check them out.

Re: Dana Fuchs

That girl has a set of pipes and a half.     Wow!     If JJ were still alive she would think she was hearing herself.   That isn't a bad comparison by any means.     Great video.

Re: Dana Fuchs

Well George, thank you for holding your arms up for 15 full minutes to capture this moment! smile
"Holy sh**" as Dana put it, what a great Festival-Jam ...

I can just agree on everything George said: Dana was the major surprise of the Festival and she just rocks. Please check her out guys! She´s got such a powerful voice and stage presence, you´ve really got to see her live when she plays somewhere near you.
With Dana´s permission we can put the clip up on youtube and hope that a lot of people will see it and listen to more of her stuff (great Live CD called "Live from NYC" btw!). I love her Beatles covers the most .... the way she does "Helter Skelter" is second to none. How did George call her? "Dynamite lady" - yes indeed! smile

Re: Dana Fuchs

Yes, just to follow from the others that was very impressive. Not only does Dana have a great voice and plenty of charisma but the guest guitarist did not do to badly playing a song, or should that be songs, that he knew very little about.  Thanks for filming that and sharing it with us smile

Did you know Dana is Sexy Sadie in Across the Universe. Might be the reason she does the Beatles covers. I love that movie. I Have the DVD need to go watch it again.

Re: Dana Fuchs

The same reaction I had:  I was hearing Janis Joplin back from the grave! Holy **** this lady has one heckuva future ahead of her!  WOW! What pipes!

Yes, I heard about that. She also played in a Janis Joplin Musical I believe (no wonder...). I was trying to buy the movie some months ago, but found no store that sold it. I´m gonna buy it from Amazon now ... if you say you like it, it´s got to be good - you´re always my most trustworthy source for good music Jim. wink

Oh yeah!  More like this please!

Re: Dana Fuchs

My Dad and I are definitely still kicking ourselves for not seeing her a few weeks ago around here. I showed him the video and the photos and he liked them a lot. Thanks for taping the entire performance, that's totally great!

Dana's voice is really impressive. Now if she already sounds that amazing in the video I can only imagine how top-notch the real thing must be!

Need to listen to her album more, in case I ever get my hands on it, my Dad has it most of the time. We also hope to get her Live DVD and the movie she had a part in so that we can check out more of her talent. smile

*scratches head and shakes it in disbelief*

Great video George. It reminds me of Isis by Bob Dylan off the album Desire....can you hear it?

Re: Dana Fuchs

Nearly two weeks later, I'm wondering if anyone saw Dana at the Three Rivers in Pittsburgh on the 12th?
