Topic: Axe FX user here? - Bonamassa preset

I just purchased an AxeFX and I wonder how to achieve Joe's  typical sound. I am not quiet experienced with this device. Does anybody use an AxeFX and have the right presets?

I know, that it has to be possible to dial in that tone. Ok - playing is another story. There is no preset for that.

Seeing what is possible today, I will predict that a new age has been started. In about 5 years nobody will carry tons of equipment arround. Even Joe won't. I bet!

Re: Axe FX user here? - Bonamassa preset

got no clue about the presets but I can promise you one thing.  Gear whores never give up their big rigs no matter how much easier they are to carry around.  This AxeFX won't come close to Joe's sound.  You won't even get in the same ball park.  Your best bet would be finding some sort of Marshall preset and playing around with that and some delay.

Don't let the nay sayers get you down. Anything other than a tube amp will be looked upon as blasphemy. To each their own. I applaud your decision to purchase one and I will look forward to reading any review you can provide on the Axe FX. I'm giving serious consideration to getting one myself. Someday.

I thought someone on here said he nailed the JB tone with one on a previous thread.  I think it would be possible to get into the ballpark sure, but I think the actually amps would get closer.  The AxeFX is a back saver though and can probably do so much more than just the JB tone.  Can you run more than one amp at a time on the AxeFX?  If not, it may be a little hard to emulate the Joe tone IMO.  Good luck, keep truckin' don't mind the naysayers.  A good player can get "the tone" on anything.

I'm going to guess based on your comment that you've not spent a minute in the same room with an AxeFx based rig. Not only are the sounds there, they're easy to get especially with the ability to combine multiple amps.  The biggest equation you leave out is the Joe Factor - the amp tones are there is spades, Joe's touch is not.

That said, my own AxeFx experiment is over and I'm sticking with my regular tube rig.  Its easier for me to use,  there is nothing convenient about rack stuff, and the Ultra version I had was overkill for me.

Using headphones, i can nail Reconsider Baby tones with the Line6 POD. others I have not tried.

Ask me about my handwound Great Lakes Guitar Pickups
Since 2010, Bonamassa fans have taken advantage of my JB friend discount = my cost + shipping. cool

Re: Axe FX user here? - Bonamassa preset

I have played an AxeFx setup on a session. I was very courious and couldn't believe how good it sounded.
There was an active monitor for the guitar sound. That was really fun. But - it doesn't feel like an amp.
I had some problems to cut through the bandsound. There was a guy playing a Fender Pro jr. with 15 watt or so.
He wasn't that loud but audible with every single touch on his gitar. Then I'm a guy who rolls a lot on the volume knob.
Here I found the AxeFx as weak for this. It react just different.

Anyway, for recordings its just amazing. And probably it wasn't setup perfect at the session
but nonetheless its nothing for me as it provides not the same physical vibes and playing feel that a good tube amp does.
And I have to admit I cannot bother with the gazillion parameters and midi insanity... roll
But its just me and perhaps i'm biased...

Alex, same experience here. A lot of modelers lack the capability to cut through. As a recording unit the Axe FX is the best there is.

Back to the initial question.....I think there is an Axe FX forum, and maybe you should post your questio there ones again. Generally a unit like the Axe FX can provide almost any tone you wish. You should be able to get a good JB tone, but please bear in mind, it's still false believe in many players's minds that you can reproduce a sound that one guy like Joe developped over the years in changing components, combining amps, finding the right guitars, I mean it's a huge body of work, but hey......good luck anyway!:)
