G&L all the way, I love my Comanche more than any Fender i've ever played, but to be honest the EJ strat is the only strat that is comparable  to it, but i'd still go G&L.

So what is a good price on a USA build mid 90's Legacy with a humbucker, Seymore Duncan. I found one I like and it plays great but I am not sold on the color blue with black pickguard.

I probably wouldn't pay more than a grand.

Pickguard for these things are hard to find.  I got a buddy that has 2 G&L bodies that he as had for the last 20 years.  They are unfinished and Leo Fender was a client of his.  They were trying to sell him a CNC router and Old Fender would buy into it.  He wanted everything done by as the logo says even the logo was applyed by hand.  Anyway when I met my friend he picked me for any useful info on how to build a guitar I could possibly come up with.  And at one point I found some pickguards for him but I have lost the site now.  It had something to do with Heavenly pickguards or something like that.

It's not the end of the world to have a quality luthier cut a pickguard for you.  I've seen my guy do it a handful of times.  The blanks are easy to find.

Thats true.  Also if you have access to a machine shop and your pretty good with design you could just make one yourself.  My friend I talked about is using lexsan to make the pickguard.  After that he's going to use carbon fiber under it to give it a very modern look.  All of this he is going to cut himself.

A good router or even confident use of a dremel tool with the right top can do the same!

Was looking for some other opinions, thoughts, etc from people that have actually had a chance to play both guitars...

I dont care for the G & L. They are to heavy for my taste and i dont like the necks. I like my strat style guitars to be about 8 pounds with a soft c neck but everybody is different. You are the only one who will know which guitar is right for you.

I have to admit to buying a fender stratocaster recently.. Doesnt excuse their practices.. but it was cool.. Its a project guitar of sorts.. I ll keep you posted..

Wow, I cannot believe it.  That's awesome Joe.  I have to admit while I dig the tones you are getting with the Les Paul the most you did get some very valid tones on the strats too.  Can't wait to see what you are doing to that Strat...my guess is that there are some hummies going into that thing.  We'll have to wait and see! big_smile

But the best way I could put it is there are a lot of great people that work at Fender, I have some friends that work there. But there are some upper level people I have meet there that really rubbed me the wrong way. So much so I just don't care to spend my money on there products. I will just support smaller companies like G&L instead. I guess there are A$$holes everywhere you go.

There are assholes everywhere but the best you can hope for is to attract those like yourself to you and have them positively influence your life, which isn't too bad all in all.

I guess if you were to spend money on a Fender product from here you could earn yourself some good karma by supporting a local mom n' pop store though...

I'm thinking about making another Fender purchase. I have a guy that can get access to the ones they throw away because they have a small scratch. Can get some CHEAP too. Will keep you guys posted.
