Hamburg Fabrik and Forum meetup

I agree it was a great concert by joe and the whole band last night. Although a bit weird for me. The third of three weird gigs in a week really. First was the Metallica aural confusion of Tuesday, and then I managed to fall through my own monitors off the stage on Saturday (attempting to body surf without a crowd is not cool!) and then finally watching Joe's gig from above and behind the stage.

The Hamburg Forum guys had kindly held a spot for me out front but arriving so late I would have felt bad pushing my way through a sellout out crowd who had waited so long in a very hot hall. So best place I could get was above but behind the band. However, this vantage point meant I could really admire the work of two musicians whose efforts you sometimes can't fully see.

Bogie is a truly awesome drummer. As I was almost on his shoulders I could see his every hit. He is mighty but with such economy. My mate with me is himself a drummer himself and he had a Joe and a Bogie moment at the same gig!

Rick is an exceptional sideman too. I could see the whole keys set up and his ivory tinkling was superb, although I'm not so sure about the sartorial impact of the red bowler hat - but hey, if he likes it, why not?

OK the sound for us was a  muted little but that was our problem and not joes. I checked it out from other points and it was just great. Joe was on fire I thought, and as strange as it was not to see the finger work close up from the front let me tell you from behind it was different but no less stunning.

Plus in his dandy white suit we thought he doing a pretty good Fred Astaire impersonation the way his feet danced on and off a mighty impressive FX pedal board. And from behind that 'power stance' looks pretty impressive. Don't think my back would be up to even trying to bend that far over backwards.

So from a strange and different perspective we got to see a great rocking band and did some cool people watching too. The forum was well represented right down front, seemingly enraptured. Or so I thought. Eva, did I really catch you yawning at the end of 'Lonesome Road Blues'? Girl, you've either seen Joe too much or that partying is getting to ya!

High points for me were a truly HEAVY version of 'Story of a Quarryman', a blinding 'Just Got Paid', a mesmerising 'Sloe Gin' (is that a new Intro?) and finally watching Bogie's devastating work on an awesome 'Happier Times'.

Joe earns his success the hard way with another superb sweat soaked performance. Sold the Fabrik out twice in a few months. Sadly for a Fabik lover he's already outgrown it and next time we'll need somewhere bigger. Hah! even 'Happier Times" ahead.

so in a couple of hours i am on my way to berlin and will meet eva and marlies again

Personally I didn't like Joe's from-right-to-left hairstyle...

Of course we'll meet again! I don't expect that anybody suddenly don't want to see Joe's show
