Topic: Personal Good News!!!!

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry that this has absolutely nothing to do with JB, guitars or music    But today after 10 weeks of being in the hospital my grandfather has finally gotten home.

*dances around*

WOOHOO!!!!!!

Its been a very long 10 weeks for him (he's 87) and even longer for me, I seem to now know at least 50 different healthcare professionals and unprofessionals.     The healthcare system is like an orange, with glorious segments, none of which communicate to each other (long story)

I have to thank everyone who has any involvement with the medical profession and in particular cancer care people.    You'll never know how much your training, care and fantastic attitudes help us get through.

I have to also thank Joe who's music has been a constant companion on my ipod shuffle and has brought me through some pretty tough face to face meetings.    Thanks Joe!!!!

My grandfather isn't necessarily "out of the woods" but now that he's confined to a wheelchair we've got new battles to face and new adventures to have.

Thank you
Morgan

Hi Morgan,
I know a little of what you and your grandfather have been through. My mother who has also been ill lately, but is now, thankfully back on the road to recovery.

I think we all need to take time now and again to be thankful for the health we enjoy and the health of those near and dear to us.     I hope your mum stays well and completely on the recovery road.

Yes this is great news. My grandmother was released from the hospital a few weeks ago. She was diagnosed with colon cancer and had to have surgery. The dreaded procedure took only 15 minutes! She is back home now and I am so thankful. It is a great feeling knowing you've (most likely) dodged a bullet.

All the best to your family... great news.

Re: Personal Good News!!!!

Thanks Eric.    I hope your grandmother goes from stength to strength.    Cancer is an awful thing and we're all playing russian roulette with it.

I like dodging bullets, makes you feel like you've won.     Its just sometimes I feel like its a bullet dodged on the moon.

I know one thing for certain, it makes you appreciate family a whole lot more.    Not that I didn't before.

The sense of relief I felt when I finally wheeled him in to the sitting room this afternoon was amazing, been under such a huge amount of pressure that it was starting to get to me.    I would have written a message across the sky if I could have.

Peace
Morgan

As a hospice nurse, I'm always happy to hear good stories. It warms my heart to read such caring words. It is those special moments that will stay with you long after your loved ones pass on. I can also say it means lots to "older" family members when you choose to give them your time. You can never give too much love!  Cathy

I am so happy for all of you.  I agree with Cathy's sentiments wholeheartedly, "You can never give too much love!"  Life's very best to all.  pattyluvsjoe

Hey Morgan,

Thanks for sharing that with us all.

Very pleased your grandfather is home, and that he has a grandson such as yourself to look after him... it must mean the world to him, and I bet you have him laughing none stop big_smile

As an ITU nurse I see things like this day in day out... I always get a warm, fuzzy feeling when my patients go home or get transferred to a less intense ward. It's also nice to hear some praise for health care professionals at a time when we seem (at least British nurses) to be getting a lot of bad press lately, so thanks again for that.

Best wishes to you, your family and especially to your grandfather

My grandparents mean the world to me and even at 86 and 87, you'd never think they were, might be because I'm not letting their minds get old?

Serioulsy though, thank you Cathy.    Thank you for the job you do too.     See the level of care people need its an admirable job you do.

You're right, you can never give too much love and sometimes love is all you can give.

Thanks Becky.   I got a little excited last night as its been a long time coming.

See you're another person who needs vast quantities of thanks and immensely huge hugs for the phenomenal job you do.     Its thanks to individuals within the healthcare system which make the trauma of illness a more tollerable experience.     I've seen it from both the inside and outside and have never felt short changed.

Anyone and everyone deserves the care, the love and the attention they need to get through tough times.

Peace and Love to all
Morgan

Thanks Jimi75.     Its really odd how my internet use has moved from music and guitars to music, guitars and healthcare stuff.

Re: Personal Good News!!!!

InspiredbyJB...thanks for the laugh...at this..."The healthcare system is like an orange, with glorious segments, none of which communicate to each other (long story)"  I know exactly what you mean and I can think of a few ways to contain costs, IF the right hand knew what the left hand was doing.  I think we should crank up COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN, for good measure, just to get rid of any remaining frustration. big_smile

It is refreshing to see your respect for health care providers and also nice to see an abundance of love in your family.  smile

And a sidenote to our two fine nurses, Cathy and Becky.  It really takes a very special person to do your line of work, very honorable careers.  I think I would really struggle emotionally with hospice work, I think it would put me over the edge to do that day in and day out, really tough work! I thought you worked in a hospital Cathy, like standard patient care. I can see how you need extra doses of music at the end of the day.  smile

Welcome to the forum Becky. Nurses have had tough times in the states as well, but the demand for good nurses seems to be on the rise, so maybe the tables are turning. wink

Hi Angela,

Thank you and you're welcome.     The healthcare "system" is whats wrong with healthcare, I have nothing but respect and admiration for all who work in hospitals, clinics and care homes.    Well, almost all who work in care homes.   There are some in those places who are treading water more than Micheal Phelps.    But thats another story.

The Orange analogy is the only way I can stop myself going crazy with the system, feel free to use it at any time and spread the fruity word.

I prescribe music therapy for all, play it loud, play it long and keep it real.

Hi Morgan

I hope you and your Grandad can still have some special time together.
My twelve year old son recently had to have a operation down in the nether region, bit of a worry
at first but he's okay now.

Cheers

Thank you Jeff.    Hope your son makes a complete recovery with no long lasting ill-effects.    Its something that you don't really think about until these events occur......your own lineage and family legacy.   Fingers crossed for a bright future.

I wish everyone could have the sort of relationship I have with my grandfather, some people aren't fortunate enough to have grandparents when they hit their 30s.
