Topic: What did the folks who went to the Albert Hall think of Scott McKeon?

Just wondering what everyones opinions were on Scott's set at the Albert Hall?

Scott doesn't seem to get much love on this forum but I think he really proved himself at the Albert Hall.

I really enjoyed it, Scott's voice sounds better than ever and he has some really strong songs and is also developing more of his own style on the guitar, nice and swampy.

Hi Jess,
I really enjoyed Scott's set. I thought he played and sang very well and it must have been very daunting to open for Joe at such a prestigious venue.
The last time I saw him support Joe was at the Shepherd's Bush gig in 2007 and I have to say I didn't enjoy it that much. The sound was very heavy with a lot of distortion.
I also saw him supporting Derek Trucks recently. He played an acoustic set with Robbie McIntosh on dobro and I liked it very much.
A talented young fella indeed.

I thought he did really well, sound was off and on from where we were sitting. Of course he is going to be massively overshadowed by the event.

Sadly at the front we could not hear any of Scott's vocals. His guitar work sounded pretty good and the band were ok, but as I said with the vocals absent it will a little hard to judge the full quality of the songs. I'll be keen to hear his new album whenever it is completed.

I would not say that Scott was not loved on the forum, as you'll see there are very few UK artists that get a repeated mention other than those that are regularly touring the UK and Europe such as Oli Brown and Aynsley Lister. I'm sure if and when Scott starts to tour on a more regular basis there will be more regular comments about him on the forum.

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Scott and I thought he gave a terrific performance.  From where I was sitting it looked like he got a really warm reception from most of the crowd.

I've been checking his stuff out, and just added him as a friend on myspace.  IMO, the youtube vids from R.A.H. are very nice.

Re: What did the folks who went to the Albert Hall think of Scott McKeon?

I have a CD of him since a few months and love it... a very cool musician... and I was happy for him, that this young upcoming talent has had the chance to play such a venue... I wasn't there but I've a seen a YouTube vid and only can say: well done, man... smile

First time I had seen or heard him. I was quite impressed. Would like to see him somewhere smaller, plus a longer set.

Re: What did the folks who went to the Albert Hall think of Scott McKeon?

He's ok, but he needs to build up the small gigs too, and get that second album out, been taking him a long time...

Re: What did the folks who went to the Albert Hall think of Scott McKeon?

I thought he was really good at the RAH - great rockin' blues - he needs to do more touring in the UK.................why is he not playing more often????? Joe has proved that you need to be out there to make it...................

Re: What did the folks who went to the Albert Hall think of Scott McKeon?

While on the subject of Scott, I really liked his debut album, but thought the "muddy" sound production let it down a bit - anyone else find that???

Re: What did the folks who went to the Albert Hall think of Scott McKeon?

Ordered his CD yesterday - hopefully I will be able to hear his vocals (they were non-existant where I was sitting at RAH).  My son, who doesn't usually say too much, was quite impressed by him at RAH.  Will let you know what I think.

"There's a lot of people that are in so much of a hurry to be, I guess, to be famous or that they don't want to take the time to learn to play and do all that. They'd rather just knock it down off a computer and maybe get on a game show and get famous..That's fine if that's what you want to do.

Re: What did the folks who went to the Albert Hall think of Scott McKeon?

I was disappointed actually...
OK, in that he did not play longer, but.....maybe too polite?
His exit was so fast I thought it seemed like he was going to pee his pantalones if he didn't hurry a little faster.  It was the same with Marianne Keith.  Disappointed she didn't play longer and her exit although not quite as fast, seemed hurried.  Was it like that with Crosby Loggins too?
But, back to Scott,...I asked this on another topic post-
Did anyone else notice Scott actually ripped a little riffage from one of Joe's songs??? I thought that was very cool as he was quite subtle about it but still it was there...I ain't tellin' you, you heard it or you didn't tongue

Well its not his fault if he was only given a short set.

Of course not.  If you don't know my style of posting, that's my way of saying I liked him a lot.  Plus, I think of short openers like Scott and Joe when he was on the trail (example: he's the 3rd  band on a lineup with Foreigner & Bad Company) with the headliners really anticipated really aren't going to get their due at the time...so they just do their best at that time with that short amount of time.  If they pull it off well, people, like myself in this case with Scott, and many long ago short set Bonamassa converts, will wish they had time to play more.
